Artist Biographies:

"Drummer Laurence Cook is a late first-generation American free improviser. Born in Boston, Cook attended art school there, before moving to N.Y.C. in the early '60s and working as a longshoreman. Although he has no recordings as a leader, Cook appears on many albums starting in the late '60s and stretching all the way through the '90s. He recorded with Alan Silva (on Skillfullness), the Godz, and Paul Bley during Bley's electronic period. During the '70s, Cook returned to Boston and collaborated with pianist/physicist Lowell Davidson until later in the decade when he began working in Bill Dixon's bands. Cook appears on several of Dixon's recordings and continued to work with him through the late '80s. Cook was tied up with day gigs for much of the early '90s, but in 1996 he returned to more high-profile performing and recording. During the last half of the '90s he worked with Jamell Moondoc, Thurston Moore, and Sabir Mateen, among others."

Part of Ayler's Guerilla Series, percussionist Laurence Cook and keyboardist Eric Zinman in an album of textural duos developed over a year while working with the Yamaha CP300 stage keyboard.

"Laurence Cook studied painting at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston and later learned to play piano, vibraphone, and drums. He has been a major figure in the jazz avant-garde since the 1960's on twenty-two recordings, including Revenge, and Dual Unity with Paul Bley; Skillfullnes with Alan Silva ,Ritti with Joe Morris; "Fuzzagainst Junk" from Vision 1997 Festival with Thurston Moore; Triplet and Fire in the Valley with Jemeel Moondoc ; Divine Mad Love with Sabir Mateen; November 1981, Thoughts, and Son of Sisyphus with Bill Dixon. He has worked with Sam Rivers, Alan Silva, The Brecker Brothers, Robin Kenyatta , Mark Whitecage , and Barre Phillips among many others."-All About Jazz

"Born 1963 and educated in Boston, MA USA, Eric Zinman began piano studies at age 7. At age 11 he sang in a boy's soprano choir in Donald Martino's opera The Divine Comedy in the 70's. He continued to sing in musicals and choirs throughout his childhood and teenage years and piano studies with Angel Ramon Rivera, and jazz with Paul Barringer, and Don Hemwall. As a teenager he says he discovered Black Music and became completely immersed in that approach. He met musician/composer Bill Dixon in 1981. Zinman considers this the turning point in his musical life. Mr. Zinman also speaks highly of his studies with musician/pianist/composer Naqi Qamar. He continued his studies of modern music at the New England Conservatory of Music with Ran Blake, Jimmy Giuffre, and George Russell where he received an MM degree in 1985."-All About Jazz
