Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Kazemat presents cut and paste composers who make enchanting, alchemistic and cinematic music that is constructed out of samples and sounds that are put in another context.

In the past many composers have used existing material in their work, like folk melodies, quotations or stylistic elements from other composers. In the twentieth century composers started to use recorded sounds and in hiphop sometimes even entire songs are made out of samples of existing music.

This tradition is continuing with the ever growing possibilities technology has to offer. There are new ways to create music in a very personal, organic and intuitive way. Serious and real new instruments can be made and used to explore and express interesting and daring musical ideas. Many new artists are finding their own voice and are making beautiful, cinematic and colorful music that is often obscured from the music loving audience."-Kazemat

"Morsanek is an Amsterdam-based guitarist, composer and sound editor, aka Mark Morse, aka (dj) morsanek aka Morsanek.

His DJ and audio constructions are heavily influenced by the rhythms and techniques of film editing, while texturally fascinated by timbral combinations involving both instrumental and non-instrumental sounds. He plays with the differences between "chance music" and group improvisation and the role of the listener in discovering or manufacturing structure within either.

His efforts as an improvising guitarist are based on using prepared guitar as a sort of sampler or emulator, experimenting with the limits of texture as narrative glue. As a solo performer he works with handheld amplifiers and feedback.

He is a member of a few irregularly performing groups:

The Family Tapes: no-effects electric guitar quintet exploring an anti-wanking approach to ensemble improvising.

Sleep Gunner: guitar duo paying homage to 1950s heartbreak duo The Louvin Brothers, with composer/guitar hero Jeroen Kimman.

LYSN: Composer Hilary Jeffery's variable-size drone ensemble.

Minister Kebab: With Hilary Jeffery on trombone and tromboscillator and Alan "Gunga" Purves on all manner of homemade percussion, plus Morse on samplers, feedback, and analog electronics. Influences or resulting resonances include Throbbing Gristle, La Monte Young, and cartoon Scottish-Haitian pipe bands. The Wench: A cover band featuring equal doses of tranquility and naked aggression with tenor saxophonist John Dikeman and electronicist Ivo Bol."-http://morsanek.blogspot.com/
