![]() "Fenaison is a group committed to the making of new music that is texturally driven, improvised, exploratory, and boundary crossing. Performing with intuition, ingenuity, and integrity, Fenaison pushes the limits of the anticipated and the accepted with their dynamic and intensely unique performances. Members of the ensemble come from such diverse backgrounds as classical composition, noise music, contemporary performance, improvisation, electronic music and jazz. This ensemble has been heralded as both exciting and innovative. "Listening to Fenaison reminds me why I enjoy improvisation. They make music that is passionate, mysterious, and full of contradictions - careful and abandoned, melodic and noisy, peaceful and edgy, logical and surprising - music that doesn't make sense. In other words, it's alive! And well..."-Fred Frith Rémy Bélanger de Beauport has studied classical piano and double-bass, and is self-taught on guitar, electric bass and live electronics. He now focuses on cello (acoustic or amplified), in improvised music contexts. This year Rémy will be curator, with Jean Derome and Joane Hétu, of the Mercredimusics concert series at Casa Obscura. He is also cellist improviser for Théâtre Émergence this season, on a play by Marie-Ève Gagnon. His future projects include improvisations with wind turbines and a stay in Berlin over the summer. Charity Chan's live performances focus on the evocation of alternative timbres from the piano, and the combination of these sounds with more traditional performance techniques. Charity has performed throughout Canada and in the United States. Collaborations include: Lori Freedman, Anthony Martin, Steve Bagnell, Dave Chokroun, John Heward, Damon Smith, Gino Robair, Simon Rose, Fred Frith, Maggie Nichols, Frank Gratkowski, John Heward, Jean Derome, Isaiah Ceccarelli, Nicolas Caloia, Joane Hétu, Danielle Palardy Roger, Jack Wright. Kris Covlin began his studies in Edmonton with William Street, has pursued classical saxophone in Paris, winning a first prize for interpretation under the guidance of saxophonist Jean-Michel Goury. Now based in Victoria, BC, Kris regularly plays a variety of musical styles. He is developing his capabilities in jazz, rock and Dixieland music while continuing to study and perform written and improvised contemporary music. ![]() Ambiances Magnetiques December 2007 Improvised Music Musique Actuelle Electro-Acoustic Trio Recordings Objects and Home-made Instruments Canadian Composition & Improvisation Search for other titles on the label: Ambiances Magnetiques. |
