"Nicolás Chientaroli, pianist, improviser and composer was born in Buenos Aires in 1982, and moved to Amsterdam in 2013.

He studied at the Technologic Institute of Contemporary Music (Instituto Tecnológico de Música Contemporánea - ITMC), where after he taught for six years, and went resolutely to jazz and free improvisation once the career was finished. He studied Jazz with Ernesto Jodos and Enrique Norris, and with Susana Kasakoff Classical Music. He played with many local exponents from the Buenos Aires Jazz and Free Improvisation scene.

He has recorded three albums as composer and pianist with his trio: La Música Está Prohibida - Blueart Records 2008, with Carlos Alvarez on bass and Hernán Rodriguez on drums. La casa caliente - Sofa Records 2011, with the same lineup as the previous recording, and Viajeramente - Pan y Rosas Discos 2013, with Carlos Alvarez on bass and Sebastián Groshaus on drums. The second album was presented at the Buenos Aires International Jazz Festival 2011.

He recently released his solo album Cada Fuego Es El Primero under the Portuguese label Creative Sources.

As a pianist, he explores and expands the boundaries of the piano and develops a very personal way of playing. In reviews his music is described as a magnificent and extraordinary journey of sound. Once he is seated on a stool, at the keyboard, his touch is somehow magnified by way of his extracurricular activities.

As a composer and pianist he leads together with Ada Rave the group The Big Dinner, inviting different improvisers from all around the world in each performance.

He is a member of the free improvisation trio New Rumours and Other Noises together with Raoul van der Weide on contrabass and Ada Rave on tenor and soprano sax.

He has co-directed the group Los Improvisadores Gráficos together with Ada Rave, alto sax; Hernán Sama, tenor sax and Martín López Grande, drums; with whom he recorded the album Los Improvisadores Gráficos 2011. This group experiments the improvisation through the work of Cornelius Cardew, Treatise. He is part of the experimental music group Las Formas Avanzan together with Marcelo Jusid, guitar and voice; and guest musicians. He is also a member of the contemporary jazz and free improvisation trio from Andrés Elstein, recording the album La Caja in 2012.

As a pianist he has recorded and been part of several projects: Proyecto Orgánico Rave, led by the saxophonist Ada Rave, recording the album Los Ritos Del Sueño 2008; Francisco Salgado Cuarteto, led by the trombonist Francisco Salgado, La Hormiga, led by the trumpet player Mariano Bertolini, recording the album Puntos Suspensivos 2010; Rave/Espinal/Chientaroli/Vitale, recording the album Relatos De Terodáctilo, Pan Y Rosas Discos 2013, among others.

With his different projects, he performs regularly at several places from Argentina, The Netherlands and Europe.

"Raoul van der Weide (Fontenailles / Fr, 1949) played 6 years of classical violin in the Northern Netherlands Youth Orchestra. As a bassist he developed largely autodidactic but also studied classical double bass at John Clayton and Norma Brooks. Contrast point at Guus Janssen. Feel inspired by inspiration and improvisational practice in the free but unstructured views of various musicians like Paul Termos, Guus Janssen, Lennie Tristano, Misha Mengelberg, Jimmy Giuffre, Steve Lacy, Ornette Coleman, Derek Bailey, Charles Mingus and Munir Bashir.

As an improviser, the creative focus is on the development possibilities of open personal aesthetics in the broadest sense. The continued deepening of its own sound, intonation and power of expression - of the musical fingerprint - is considered important.Van Raoul van der Weide published the solo CD 'Passages' (GeestGronden # 24 / at the beginning of 2006, to which De Volkskrant and promising 4 stars discussion was dedicated.

Worked together in Bert Koppelaar's POINT OF ORCHESTURE, Paul Termos Trio, Guus Jansen Septet / Octet / Orchestra, Burton Greene Quartet / Trio Spazio Trio (with K. Bauer and Guenther Sommer), Luc Houtkamp Quartet, Ab Baars Sextet, Peter Zegveld projects ('Caspar Rapak' and 'Statua Tumultus'), The Gravitones (Winners Dordtse Jazz Prize 1995), Joost Buis & The Famous Astronotes, Sound-Lee! Quartet ('Plays the Music of Lee Konitz'), New Crosscurrents Sextet."

descriptions, reviews, &c.

"A long name for a new Amsterdam-based trio. January 2015 they recorded this debut-album at the Bimhuis, released by the minuscule Casco Records, run by Raoul van der Weide, who is also featured on the other releases by this label. For this release van der Weide (contrabass, crackle box, objects, voice) is in the company of Ada Rave (as, ts cl, preparations, voice) and Nicolas Chientaroli (piano, preparations, voice), two musicians from Argentina who settled down in Amsterdam a few years ago. Van der Weide is the most experienced from the three, part of the Dutch impro-church for many years, played in ensembles of Guus Janssen, Ab Baars, Luc Houtkamp, a.o. Ada Rave first played jazz and improvisation in her hometown Buenos Aires, before crossing the ocean in order to expand her possibilities. Classically trained Chientaroli set also his first steps in jazz and improvised music in Buenos Aires, participating with Rave in the Los Improvisadores, improvising on compositions by Cornelius Cardew. As mentioned above all three play prepared objects and instruments, played with fantasy and humour. Yes this trio has a strong and self-conscious voice. We hear fine spirited interactions, demonstrating that improvising is fun, divided over eight short instant compositions. I enjoyed the phrasing by Rave who plays very inspired all the way. The three don't need more then about 35 minutes to convince that they are an inspired trio with lots of ideas."-Dolf Mulder, Vital Weekly
