"The music presented in this CD is from a live performance on December 12, 2018 in the Philippines. The contents represent the entire first set and the final selection from the last set, appropriately with an extended drum solo from the Japanese legendary improvisational master, Sabu Toyozumi.
The first track, "No Social Relevance", was released in an edited version on vinyl, Chasing the Sun, Chap-Chap Records CPLP001. This is the complete version, which was the opening music during the performance. It is important to re-issue the full version, followed directly by "Red Turtle Bird", as the two tracks were actually performed as one. The trio pauses briefly, and before the audience can react, Sabu slides the trio into the next movement.
The first set ends with a duo, featuring the acoustic bassist, Simon Tan, with Sabu, titled "Lower Depths". The title comes from a quartet Simon and I had together, almost 10 years ago, when I first came to the Philippines and was still pursuing the baritone sax.The final track on the CD, "Blue Turtle Bird", was also the final music during the performance, and fully displays the current creative energy and passion of Sabu Toyozumi, 40 years after his historic recordings with Kaoru Abe."-Rick Countryman
