Expanding the Re-Ghoster trio of Nicolas Field on drums, Thomas Florin on piano, and Valerio Tricoli on revox and electronics with the addition of Nate Wooley on acoustic and amplified trumpet and Fritz Welch's visceral vocal work, the group explores surreal electroacoustic improvisation through dense, transdimensional soundscapes, fractured time, deranged textures, and ritualistic intensity; incredible!

"Setting the stage for The Zebra Paradox requires building anticipation and intrigue on the inside of the listener before they even hear the first notes. To accomplish this an imagined transference of information must bloom like a deep inhalation of sonic spores. If categories can be applied to explore how concepts are played out in this music and throughout the album, perhaps think of displacement, confusion, time distortion and derangement. Otherwise the listener might choose to transfer meaning to the side and delve into sound as tangible matter?
With the addition of Nate Wooley's acoustic and amplified trumpet and the ritualistic/concrete vocals of Fritz Welch, to the original Re-Ghoster lineup of piano, drums and revox, The Zebra Paradox brings a shift that pushes the puzzle into quantum fields. The compounded result weaves a trail through seemingly illogical soundscapes replete with trans-dimensional echoes in which phantasmagoric frequencies and chrono-phonic spectres collide in a musical paradox.
During the deepest listening you might actually be able touch the vocal dust if you have such morbid inclinations. And the trumpet's presence might rub right onto your flesh. The extended ensemble's instrumental mutations and it's sonic manifestation is unique and haunting but perhaps it is actually ultra familiar like the churning of a restless crowd or the seeping of an oily stain? Unknown or not, The Zebra Paradox pushes towards somewhere and creates its own narrative something-or-other while taking the listener through possible sub-realities and future nows. From the transdimensional echoes to the phantasmagoric frequencies, this is The Style. Its the way it has to be!"-Konnekt

He has received multiple awards and was artist in residence at the Swiss Institute in Rome (2010-11), AirAntwerpen (2011), Belluard Bollwerk international (2013&2014) and Johannesburg South-Africa (2015). Early 2000, he starts travelling through Europe as a drummer with different bands (improvised music, contemporary music and jazz). Over time and tours, that also take him to the US, Japan, Corea and Australia, Nicolas Field collaborates with musicians such as Tetuzi Akyama (guitar), Akira Sakata (saxophone), Otomo Yoshihide (guitar), Keiji Haino (guitar), the band Cactus Truck, Didi Bruckmayr (vocals), Jacques Demierre (piano), Gilles Aubry (electronics) or Fritz Welch (drums/vocals). In parallel, in 2008, Nicolas Field starts building his first visual art works, taking the shape of sound installation. "Thomas explores the free spaces of improvisation and groove through a wide range of jazz and improvised music. He tours regularly with his trio Dig dug dug with double bassist Bänz Oester and drummer Samuel Dühsler (first album released in 2022), as well as playing solo piano (2 albums). His musical research has led him to collaborate with improvised music and free jazz artists, notably in a trio with drummer Nicolas Field and saxophonist John Dikeman, and with the electroacoustic trio Re-Ghoster (with Nicolas Field and Valerio Tricoli), and in an extended version with Nate Wooley and Fritz Welch.) Active in Japan since 2018, Thomas regularly collaborates with many Japanese artists. Thomas has spent 6 months in Japan in 2023, during which time he presented around fifty concerts throughout the country. Thomas Florin has performed with artists such as Nate Wooley, Fritz Welch, Hans Koch, Jerome Noetinger, Akira Sakata, Yasuhiro Yoshigaki, Shinpei Ruike, Valerio Tricoli, Nicolas Field, Jasper Stadhouders, Keigo Iwami, Bjørnar Habbestad, Matthieu Michel, Philippe Sellam, Shems Bendali, Leon Phal. Since 2020, Thomas Florin has been a member of Geneva's Fanfareduloup collective as pianist, trumpet player and arranger, for a whole series of creations, and is artistic director of the "Let's Play" video game show at the Alhambra in Geneva in January 2022." ^ Hide Bio for Thomas Florin • Show Bio for Valerio Tricoli "Valerio Tricoli was born in 1977 in Palermo. Even if he can play with acoustic instruments, he's best known as a performer using analogue electronic devices. Valerio Tricoli is an Italian composer and performer of electro-acoustic music, born in Palermo and currently residing in Munich. Since the mid '00 his main instruments for live presentations is the Revox B77 reel-to-reel tape recorder, used as a completely analogue, ergonomic device for live sampling and real-time transformation, editing and mixing of pre-recorded (field or studio recordings) and made-on-the-spot sound sources. On a formal level his sets focus on the impromptu creation of a narrative which takes into account the multiple relations intervening between reality, virtuality and memory during the acoustic event: sounds are always hovering between the 'here and now' of the concert situation and the shady domain of memory, distant but at the same time present like in a deja-vu experience. Privileging fracture over continuity and by the use of a dynamic range that could often jump suddenly from near-silence to extreme blasts of sounds, an almost tactile feeling of brooding tension is often attained. His electro-acoustic studio compositions, documented on few records, are aligned to the tradition of Musique Concrète and explore themes of the internal and of the occult, which together with the large use of spoken text makes them often deeply existential works. He is a founding member of the italian avant-rock group 3/4HadBeenEliminated and has been working extensively with Thomas Ankersmit, Antoine Chessex, Werner Dafeldecker, Anthony Pateras. He has released sound works with PAN, Die Schachtel, Formacentric, Dilemma Records, Bowindo." ^ Hide Bio for Valerio Tricoli • Show Bio for Nate Wooley "Nate Wooley was born in 1974 in Clatskanie, Oregon, a town of 2,000 people in the timber country of the Pacific Northwestern corner of the U.S. He began playing trumpet professionally with his father, a big band saxophonist, at the age of 13. His time in Oregon, a place of relative quiet and slow time reference, instilled in Nate a musical aesthetic that has informed all of his music making for the past 20 years, but in no situation more than his solo trumpet performances. Nate moved to New York in 2001, and has since become one of the most in-demand trumpet players in the burgeoning Brooklyn jazz, improv, noise, and new music scenes. He has performed regularly with such icons as John Zorn, Anthony Braxton, Eliane Radigue, Ken Vandermark, Fred Frith, Evan Parker, and Yoshi Wada, as well as being a collaborator with some of the brightest lights of his generation like Chris Corsano, C. Spencer Yeh, Peter Evans, and Mary Halvorson. Wooley's solo playing has often been cited as being a part of an international revolution in improvised trumpet. Along with Peter Evans and Greg Kelley, Wooley is considered one of the leading lights of the American movement to redefine the physical boundaries of the horn, as well as demolishing the way trumpet is perceived in a historical context still overshadowed by Louis Armstrong. A combination of vocalization, extreme extended technique, noise and drone aesthetics, amplification and feedback, and compositional rigor has led one reviewer to call his solo recordings "exquisitely hostile". In the past three years, Wooley has been gathering international acclaim for his idiosyncratic trumpet language. Time Out New York has called him "an iconoclastic trumpeter", and Downbeat's Jazz Musician of the Year, Dave Douglas has said, "Nate Wooley is one of the most interesting and unusual trumpet players living today, and that is without hyperbole". His work has been featured at the SWR JazzNow stage at Donaueschingen, the WRO Media Arts Biennial in Poland, Kongsberg, North Sea, Music Unlimited, and Copenhagen Jazz Festivals, and the New York New Darmstadt Festivals. In 2011 he was an artist in residence at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, NY and Cafe Oto in London, England. In 2013 he performed at the Walker Art Center as a featured solo artist. Nate is the curator of the Database of Recorded American Music (www.dramonline.org) and the editor-in-chief of their online quarterly journal Sound American (www.soundamerican.org) both of which are dedicated to broadening the definition of American music through their online presence and the physical distribution of music through Sound American Records. He also runs Pleasure of the Text which releases music by composers of experimental music at the beginnings of their careers in rough and ready mediums." ^ Hide Bio for Nate Wooley • Show Bio for Fritz Welch "Fritz Welch is a drummer, percussionist and vocalist determined to stretch the escalator of possibilities into the bloodshot eye of results. He currently plays in Lambs Gamble (with Eric Boros and George Cremaschi), FvRTvR (with Guido Henneböhl) and in various ensembles with guitarist Neil Davidson. He is a primary member of Asparagus Piss Raindrop and makes performance works with the choreographer Louise Ahl. He has played with Blood Stereo, Evan Parker, Crank Sturgeon, Jazzfinger,Tamio Shiraishi, Joke Lanz, Stephen O'Malley, Maya Dunietz, Michael Vorfeld, Tony Conrad, Usurper and Iancu Dumitrescu and Ana-Maria Avram among many others. A longtime Brooklynite of Texas origins, he is now based in Glasgow, Scotland." ^ Hide Bio for Fritz Welch
