Guitarist Pierre Dorge is the odd man out in this band of Peters, including Brtzmann (taragot, bass clarinet, saxophones), Jorgensen (drums) and Friis Nelsen (bass). It takes a lot to stand up to the mighty Brtzmann, but while the others keep pace, Dorge seems to issue a challenge; he plays like hes defending his name.
Dorge is also the guest on the session previous discs by The Wild Mans Band have seen the three Peters joined by Johannes Bauer and Mats Gustaffson. His work has circled around the classics his New Jungle Orchestra is noted for its interpretations of Ellington and Monk and while hes no stranger to heavy horns (he spent two years in John Tchicais big band and David Murray has sat in with his group), his electric guitar here is fast, furious and free, more than keeping up with the rest of the hard-line trio.
They run through eight pieces and while at times they settle down to a simmer, they never lose pace. The risk they run with this kind of energy jazz is formlessness. Fortunately they listen enough to not wander astray.
