Richard Pinhas & Tatsuya Yoshida are apparently continuing to make the round of the world's stages, before this current disc has even had a chance to cool in the racks. Tatsuya Yoshida of Ruins fame and long standing (sitting?) electronic guitarist Richard Pinhas (remember Heldon?) get together for some heavy, fast, multilayered scorch.
This is thick, sometimes lumpy sauce made up of equal parts rock and splatter. It follows logical progression, every change of rhythm or new guitar timbre seemingly placed in just the right spot, maintaining interest by frequently changing things up. Pinhas' guitar sometimes sounds rather Frippertronic, but his note choices and sound shifts are all his own. Yoshida's ability to play so fast and still keep a groove is enough to make the average drummer give up in despair.
I hesitate to call it Space Rock, but it does at times remind me of past excursions to "the outer reaches". As the layers of guitar build up, there's a feeling of urgency as well as elation in evidence.
