Eloping with the Sun (what a gorgeous title) is not exactly the CD that one might expect from Parker, Morris, and Drake. That's because the instrumentation is rather unusual, with Parker playing the zintir, a Moroccan bass lute, Morris on banjo and banjouke, and Drake on frame drum.
The album checks in at about 55 minutes with five pieces, four of which are very similar. Parker sets up an ostinato line, Drake finds a rhythm that he sticks to throughout, and Morris plucks out small figures against the beat on the banjo. Apart from small variations in intensity, the sound field is quite static. While the music is trance-inducing, the album suffers from a lack of variety. What this really sounds like is an exploratory jam session with the tape running.
