Drake, Hamid / Bindu
Released in: France
Hamid Drake second Bindu brings Hamid Drake, William Parker and Josh Abrams together with Joe Morris and Dee Alexander on works based on Indian Ramprasad poems. Differing from the mostly reed-heavy work of the first Bindu release, this music is highly rhythmic, using kit, tabla, bata along with his usual drums and frame drums. Which is not to understate the influence of Joe Morris on guitar and banjo, or the sung and spoken vocals of Dee Alexander, both of which provide the focus around the trance inducing percussive base. An interesting take on an ancient and mystic work.
