Bellowing Earwigs, The (Schouwburg / Bowman / Thompson / Northover): The Perpendicular Giraffe Compa (FMR)

Studio improvisations from the far-ranging quartet of Daniel Thompson on acoustic guitar, Adrian Northover on saxophone, Mbira & Melodica, Adam Bohman on objects, and Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg on voice, an experimental acoustic set that at times takes on nearly electronic qualities, Van Schouwburg and Bohman bringing unusual and unique elements to authoritatively perplexing dialog.

Artist Biographies:

"Daniel was born in Norfolk, England and since 2005 currently resides in hackney, london, other than a couple of years playing violin as a child, his musical studies didn't seriously begin until his late teens.

Largely self-taught, after moving to London in 2005 Daniel embarked upon a life changing period. He studied with the guitarist John Russell for two years, "which provided me with one of the richest and most rewarding musical experiences of my life" and Daniel also spent many evenings listening to the trio of John Edwards, Tony Marsh and Evan Parker at The Vortex in East London who "collectively confirmed my musical direction".

Daniel is A part of the fertile London improvising music scene and has also played at many other venues across the UK and Europe. As well as being a musician Daniel has been organising concerts since 2007 and ORGANISED the monthly 'Foley Street improvised music concert series' in london BETWEEN 2013 AND 2016. http://foleystreet.wordpress.com/ Daniel is currently in the process of organising a new CONCERT series which will start in 2017.

As well as performing solo and with other musicians in many ad-hoc improvising situations Daniel also performs in long-term collaborations or "working groups".

Recent collaborations (both ad-hoc and long-term) have seen Daniel performing and or recording with Neil Metcalfe, Steve Noble, Evan Parker, Caroline Kraabel,Tom Jackson, Hannah Marshall, Adam Bohman, Alex Ward, Kay Grant, Mark Sanders, John Edwards, Benedict Taylor, Lauri Hyvärinen, Roland Ramanan, Simon Rose, Adrian Northover, Marcello Magliocchi, Javier Carmona, anton mobin, Guillaume Viltard and The London Improvisers Orchestra amongst many others.

Daniel's recordings can be found on the labels Leo Records, Creative Sources, FMR AND Confront Recordings amongst others."

"Adam Bohman has been operating on the outer fringes of underground music for decades. Working with home-built instruments, found objects, tape cut-ups, collages, ink drawings and graphic scores. Favouring acoustic sounds over electronics, he explores the minute tendrils of sounds coaxed from any number of non-musical instruments and objects. He is a member of British experimental groups, Morphogenesis, The Bohman Brothers, Secluded Bronte, and The London Improvisers Orchestra. Adam's music is unique and experimental, incorporating Fluxus japery, musique concrete, sound poetry and free improvisation."

descriptions, reviews, &c.

Northover is well known from his work with Remote Viewers, and also London Improvisers Orchestra; Adam Bohman is also a member of the LIO. Daniel Thompson is a member of The Runcible Quintet, and has recorded with Francois Carrier, and released several records with Neil Metcalfe. Van Schouburg is heard on the Emanem album by Collectif Inaudible, and has participated in Freedom of the City performances; in 2017 he released a duo with Yoko Muira on the FMR label. Clearly non-idiomatic, this album is a treat to fans of, perhaps, Phil Minton's Donut series, and those who like their free improv slightly bewildering and fully adept.
