Artist Biographies:

"Eric Normand is an improviser, bassist, instrument designer, composer, songwriter, singer and record and concert producer. He defines himself as an epidisciplinary musician, a free electron driven by its yearning for meetings. As an improviser, he develop a personal and radical playing on a homemade electric bass equipped with mics and objects feedbacking and vibrating in small electronic devices, creating electric flux interrupted by the instrumental gesture. With this set, he prefer to play duets, with Jim Denley (flute and sax), Philippe Lauzier (bass clarinet and sax), Sébastien Cirotteau (trumpet), Pierre-Yves Martel (viola de gamba and electronic), Jean-Luc Guionnet (saxophone), in addition of several spontaneous encounters.

He also play in bands involved in a more specific musical genre as danced poetry with BABABA, instrumental theatre with Le Veau/ The Veal, songs with Les Pitounes and Éric Normand Chante and folk music with The Surruralits and RRRRoyal Canadian Free Form Folk Experience. Interested in collective creation and orchestral improvisation, he lead for seven years the GGRIL, a 15 pieces band that have worked with composers such as Evan Parker, Jean Derome, Robert Marcel Lepage and Michael Fischer. His music has been programmed by or performed in several festivals in Canada , Australia and Europe. It have also been broadcasted by Radio-Canada, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC, Radio-Grenouille, and several college radio stations."

"Antoine Simard studied at the Conservatoire de Saguenay where he obtained a postgraduate diploma in double bass interpretation in 2009. He was a principal double bassist for the Baie-Comeau String Orchestra and was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 2007 and 2008. He has performed in several improvised music contexts: one of the founding members of the Saguenay Musical Improvisation League, Le Festival des Musiques de Création, the Center d ' Musical experimentation. Antoine collaborates on the Saguenay cultural scene also through his association with the Bar à Pitons where he has performed at the Jazz and Scotch evenings which have presented nearly 200 jazz concerts since the fall of 2010."

"With his passion for new music, saxophonist Jean-Marc Bouchard explores the repertoire from various angles as both performer and improviser. As part of the Quasar saxophone quartet (of which he is both a founding member and general manager), Bouchard has taken part in over 40 premieres ranging from music theatre to digitally treated works, by way of symphonic orchestra. Since it was founded in 1994, the quartet has appeared all over Canada, the United States and Europe. As a teacher, Bouchard founded and currently directs the Université de Montréal's improvisation workshop. This workshop brings together a variety of instrumentalists and provides fertile ground for musical exploration and discovery by university students who are interested in new music. As a soloist, Bouchard has worked regularly and in close collaboration with composer Jean-François Laporte. His work with Laporte includes premiering 4 works, some of which were written for invented instruments. One example among others includes his solo performance of November 2008, with the Orchestre National de France with Laporte's invented waves instrument."
