Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"The Krakow Improvisers Orchestra is a creative space for the collaboration of improvising musicians with backgrounds in free jazz, classical, and experimental music. Founded by Paulina Owczarek, the Orchestra was inspired by ensembles like the London Improvisers Orchestra, John Zorn's Cobra, Phil Minton's Feral Choir, and the Discordian Community Orchestra. Recorded on September 25th 2018."-Not Two

"Conducted improvisation. The Krakow Improvisers Orchestra was founded in 2012 by Paulina Owczarek - conductor and saxophonist. The orchestra performs free and conducted improvisation.

It includes musicians from academic and non-university environments, representing classical music, free jazz and sound experiments. Their joint meeting marked a new space on the music scene - conducted improvisation.Conducted improvisation referred to as conduction is based on a system of gestures with which the conductor guides the musicians. Its inventor and promoter was Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris, who in the 1980s developed a system of several characters for musicians. Based on formations such as the London Improvisers Orchestra, John Zorn's Cobra, Phil Minton's Feral Choir, or the Discordian Community Orchestra, the musicians have developed a system of non-verbal signals and gestures, which refers to various musical elements, such as tempo, volume or texture.

Artists with many years of experience in conducting improvising bands cooperate with the band, including Charlotte Hug, Satoko Fujii, Javier Carmona, Andres El Pricto Rojas, Miroslav Toth, Michael Fischer.

The repertoire of the Krakow improvisers Orchestra extends from musical improvisations to visual arts. The orchestra's achievements include graphic score projects with Jan Bujnowski, live painting during concerts with Lena Czerniawska and Bartosz Nalepa, and dance improvisations as part of the KIO in motion project.

The uniqueness of the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra has been recognized at many domestic and foreign festivals, including Ad Libitum, Ostrava Days, Krakow Jazz Autumn, Musica Privata, Polifonie or the Spacer Contemporary Dance Festival. An important moment in the orchestra's achievements are the implementation of special projects: Qian means Creative by Rafał Mazur and Com-impro for large ensemble Satoko Fujii."-Krakow Improvisers Orchestra website (translated by Google)
