"Among the creative production of the label Creative Sources, I pointed this album, Thuya (the title's graphic on the cover uses a Y whose case is unknown on my Mac), because the music is played by a violin trio - cello - absolutely remarkable double bass and, as Dr Johannes Rosenberg so well said, it is by bringing together instrumentalists from the violin family together to the exclusion of other instruments that the deep-rooted nature of violins, violas, cellos and double basses are revealed On their best day. It is about creating a maximum of empathy. And to add, this is even more true in the context of free improvisation ... The Berlin violinist Gerhard Uebele, heard long ago in the company of Ernesto Rodrigues at the beginning of the Creative Sources label, the bassist Klaus Kurvers, also a Berliner, also heard with E. Rodrigues, but especially in an extraordinary quartet of double basses, Sequoia (Rotations / Evil Rabbit) and the Quebec cellist Remy Belanger de Beaufort. Two concerts in November 2015 (plays 8 to 11) and May 2016 (1 to 7) in Berlin. A magnificent listening, a search for sound and a sense of empathy concertante, but also disconcerting, decomplexed (the bases of their inspirations are multiple and draw as much in the contemporary experience, in the practice of the radical improvisation and the Expressiveness of popular music where the violin is a major instrument). There is a whole range of rubbings, cadences, dreams ... Complexity with several voices that are fired from all sides and explode or dark sequences that slowly moire and whose timbres and lines are interwoven in all gently. The trio has many facets, creates unpredictable paths, glissandi, frictions intertwine, music comes to life after a long moment of introspective communion, motives are added, evolved, transformed, creating the impression Enchantingto have crossed a living landscape and shared a moment of grace. The quality of the strings, the bow work, the majesty of the bass of Kurvers, the purity of the sound of Uebele, the spontaneous empathy of Belanger make this album a little wonder. Two beautiful concerts that we would have liked to attend."-Jean-Michel van Schouwburg, Orynx (translated with Google Translate)
