An immersive and often explosive set of dark compositions from Seth Nehil & Bruno Duplant, blending field recordings, electronics, percussion and percussive objects into a controlled chaos of inexplicably murky and uncategorizable sounds, at times like a surreal firework display, or inserted into a complex machine on the verge of collapse, all imbued with a consistent resonant hue.

"The sound materials of "the memory of things" appear to emerge from a time that does not exist, or has yet to exist. It is not the memories themselves that are important, but the way we connect them: we tangle, we weave, we classify by improbable, sometimes unheard intervals. Selvedges are crossed and paths are traced. Our attention is drawn to the noise heard just behind us. Things' memories are forming a time capsule. We build a memorial and sound structure by piling one layer of the present on top of another. It is a landscape with immediate depth to which our ears remain attentive."-Frederic Tentelier

Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Seth Nehil "Seth Nehil (b. 1973) is an american visual, performance and sound artist. He started to work with sound around 1990 using found objects and instruments, old records, reel-to-reel machines, discarded magnetic tape and other detritus. Then, Alial Straa was formed in 1994 by John Grzinich and Seth Nehil as a studio project involving Grzinich's handmade amplified piano wire instruments and Nehil's analogue tape treatments and instruments. The heart of Straa music is the topographical contour of an immense plain - a 'balanced field'. He also worked with N D magazine from 1995-2000 as a writer and artistic contributor. He received a BA in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and now resides in Portland, Oregon where he works as a teacher's assistant in a Montessori elementary classroom. He currently continues collaborations with John Grzinich, Olivia Block and Michael Northam in sound, performance and organization." ^ Hide Bio for Seth Nehil • Show Bio for Bruno Duplant "Bruno Duplant is a composer, improviser and multi-instrumentist (double bass, percussion, electronics, phonography...) living in the north of France. He has collaborated with lot of instrumentalists around the globe and has also made solo works for such labels as B-Boim, Engraved Glass, Peira, Ilse, Impulsive Habitat, Con-v, Unfathomless, Et le feu comme matière formatable technologiquement, Audiotong, Insubordinations and his own label curated with Pedro Chambel, Rhizome.s... For him, composing, playing, improvising music is like imagining, creating and sometimes decomposing new spaces/realities, new entities. But it is also a reflection on 'memory', not the historic one, but a memory of all things, spaces & moments. His new works, mostly based on phonographies & graphic scores, perfectly reflect that." ^ Hide Bio for Bruno Duplant
