Recorded in Montreal, Canada, on July 25th, 1973, by Michel di Torre.
This publication contains archival documents from the Experimental Music Workshop including texts by co-founder Raymond Gervais as well as a disc presenting 5 unpublished improvisations by the Expansible Trio (Yves Bouliane, Bernard Gagnon and Robert Marcel Lepage) recorded in Montreal on 25 July 1973.
"Founded in 1973, AME stems in a way from encounters and discoveries made at the Warehouse (aka Record Cave), a record store located at 5660-B, avenue du Parc in Montreal. Raymond Gervais has been working there for some time when he befriends Michel Di Torre, a regular here. Neither has musical training, but their respective backgrounds as collector-excavators and amateur instrumentalists predispose them to the search for new sounds.
Quickly, they meet on their way the most curious improvisers of the Montreal underground, the members of the Expansible Trio, the clarinetist Robert (M) Lepage, the guitarist Bernard Gagnon and, an escapee of the Jazz Libre du Québec, the bassist Yves Bouliane.
Recorded by Michel Di Torre in July 1973, the published archive is a working / improvisation session of the trio. It represents an unpublished archive of the first upheavals of improvised music in Quebec since this music was not published on records at the time.
