Members of the Polish Infant Joy Quintet and Warsaw Improvisers Orchestra--saxophonist Jan Malkowski and drummer Dominik Mokrzewski--pair off in a dynamic album of solid free jazz, influences feeling like Albert Ayler or Steve Lacy, as the two show great technical and creative skills, sometimes in great motion, sometimes reflective, showing great command and direction.

Recorded at Studio Laski, in Poland, on January 11th, 2017, by Michal Kupicz.
Our band is based in Warsaw, Poland. We are attached to free improvising scene of our city. "Skerebotte Fatta" (2018, Altanova Press) as well as "Riders from the Ra" (2018, Creative Sources Recordings) are our first albums as a duo.We came out as Infant Joy Quintet in 2014 ("New Ghosts", ForTune Records). We are also members of Warsaw Improvisers Orchestra (2016, Fundacja Słuchaj!). We try to be as expressive as it is possible. We are inspired by free jazz movement of the 60'. We also play in the rock band Ryby (2016, "Kenia", ThinManRecords)."-Skerebotte Fatta Facebook page
"When I looked at the cover of the debut album Skerebotte Fatta, my first association was the legendary "Spiritual Unity" by Albert Ayler. I noticed some graphic similarity of both albums, as well as a similar ascetic style. I do not know if this connection was intentional and whether or not I accidentally found something that is not there, but as I later learned, in terms of music, "Riders From The Ra" turned out to be a nod to the American saxophonist. And also the trend of fiery free jazz from the 1960s, with a bluesy feel and artistic authenticity, which should be doubly rejoicing.
The Skerebotte Fatta duo is made up of saxophonist Jan Małkowski and drummer Dominik Mokrzewski. Their joint artistic struggles have already taken place for a long time. They played with each other in the Warsaw Eufemia on Impro Mitingach, and on their profile on the Soundcloud site for 4 years post recordings, including those with guest participation of other musicians, such as violinist Patryk Zakrocki. "Riders From The Ra" were registered in Laski near Warsaw on January 1, 2017, under the watchful eye of Michał Kupicz. The Portuguese Creative's label became interested and released this great material.
The beginning surprises, because the title "Hey Bebop!" Completely does not reflect the character of the work. Instead of referring to the bebop classics, Jan Małkowski and Dominik Mokrzewski strike with a wave of free jazz sounds with great force. It is loud and intense until it is full of emotions. In a similar vein, "Bordered" is maintained, which strikes with punk energy. However, the whole album is not in a homogeneous climate. The musicians also give the listeners numerous moments of calm, smuggle the raw outlines of the melody, add some shamanic rhythms to it, and focus on the unrestricted establishing of dialogues.
The idea of Albert Ayler above all rises in the form of the title of one of his albums - "Music Is the Healing Force of the Universe". When I listen to "Riders From The Ra" and I read that the album was made in a recording studio at the Society for the Care of the Blind, I can believe it."-Piotr Wojdat
