"Sound waves for the end of times… Listening to this last opus of experimental music, one cannot stop thinking of Iannis Xenakis's La Légende d'Eer. Eer dies, visits the dregs, and comes back to life. Berthiaume and Sharp follow a similar path, through the transubstantiation of their guitars into sonic implements. The growing intensity emanating from Xenakis's composition is reflected, 30 years later, in these 11 rather reverential improvisations. BASE is constructed, deconstructed, then reconstructed into a wall of sounds ranging from the awakening through to experimentation, then toward a final concerto, a kind of syncopated scream from the instruments.
