"It was clear to me from the start That jazz is completely about being unconventional and unique. The real body of work is made up of The inventions of unconventional musicians." —Joe Morris
Celebrate Anthony Braxton's Birthday with Up to 40% Off!
In honor of the legendary composer, saxophonist, and conceptualist Anthony Braxton's birthday, we're offering savings of up to 40% on a wide range of his groundbreaking releases. A towering figure in creative music for more than five decades, Braxton has continuously redefined the boundaries of jazz, composition, and improvisation. As the official distributor for New Braxton House and the Tri-Centric Foundation, Squidco is proud to offer this special sale showcasing Braxton's visionary work-spanning large-scale operas, dynamic duos, inventive systems music, and beyond.
Braxton's Trillium series — his vast and evolving opera cycle — is one of the most significant and ambitious undertakings in avant-garde music. Conceived as a multi-part system of "modular operas," Trillium fuses complex compositional structures, abstract narrative, and Braxton's unique language systems into works that challenge and expand the very idea of opera. Unlike traditional opera, Trillium is not driven by conventional storytelling, but instead explores philosophical, structural, and musical themes through rich vocal writing, intricate ensemble passages, and carefully staged concepts.
This series reflects Braxton's lifelong pursuit of trans-idiomatic composition — melding elements of classical music, jazz, theater, and experimental practice into a singular artistic vision. With the recent release of a new Trillium set, there's no better moment to dive into this groundbreaking series. We highly recommend starting with Trillium E and Trillium J, both available from Squidco during this birthday sale — essential works that offer a compelling entry point into Braxton's operatic universe.

We're never quite caught up with new releases that constantly come in our door, and we don't like to rush a release to our homepage. That said, the following releases have already been stocked at Squidco, and are able to be ordered. In most cases we have images, often have samples, and some basic description of each release.
• You can see the newest additions to our catalog in our Just In Stock Section. • You can see the latest fully cataloged items in our store by using our New Releases section. • You can see Recently Restocked items on this page. • You can ask to have us email you when Upcoming Releases are in stock.
Squidco has been in business as a mail-order store since 2003. In 2010, we moved to Wilmington, NC, providing regional and visiting customers access to our catalog of over 9,000 items, including hundreds of discounted, used, and promotional items not listed on our website. We're open for visits by appointment during weekday afternoons, so if you're in the North Carolina coastal region, please email us to set up a time — we'd love to play some music for you!
