Squidco This Old Hat Sale

Before there was ezz-thetics by Hat Hut, Ltd, there was the original Hat Hut label with sublabels of hatOLOGY, Hat[now]Art and HatNOIR. The label released more than 600 albums of jazz, free improv, ea-improv, and contemporary classical music, ceasing in 2019 to be replaced by the vital ezz-thetics by Hat Hut, Ltd line, for which Squidco is the US distributor. For many years Squidco was also the US distributor for the original Hat Hut label, and we have a number of albums still in stock that we are starting to close out — when each is sold out they will not be reordered, and each will be removed from our catalog.

Therefore, from now through the weekend we are offering 64 titles from the original Hat Hut label on sale at 12.00 each, a savings of $6.95 on each! Take a good look at this list, but hurry! Quantities are limited, and this sale ends Sunday, January 7th!

BEAM SPLITTER + Lonning & Reinertsen: Beauties
(Neither/Nor Records)

Aberrant, expressive and idiosyncratic improvisations from the merging of two unique duos--Audrey Chen on voice and Henrik Munkeby Norstebo on trombone; and Eivind Lonning on trumpet and Espen Reinertsen on tenor sax--all using electronics, recording in Norway together while in separate rooms linked by headphones to create these two beautifully strange improvisations.

Bechegas / Rodrigues / Rodrigues: Secrets Under Trees
(Creative Sources)

Recording at Berlin-Wedding's performance space Werkhalle Wiesenburg in the summer of 2023, the free improvising chamber trio of violist Ernesto Rodrigues and cellist Guilherme Rodrigues meet with Portuguese flutist Carlos Bechegas, bringing contemporary classical technique to an extended and energetically tempestuous improvisation and a sprightly "Time Between".

Branch, Jamie / Isaiah Collier / Gilles Coronado / Tim Daisy: Stembells
(RogueArt)

As part of the transatlantic network The Bridge connecting creative musicians for performance, the quartet of Jaimie Branch on trumpet, synthesizer & electronics, Isaiah Collier on soprano & tenor saxophones, Gilles Coronado on electric guitar and Tim Daisy on drums, recorded this wildly building live performance after a 2022 tour across Chicago and the Midwest.

Hauser, Fritz / Pedro Carneiro: Pas de Deux
(Clean Feed)

A first encounter between Swiss drummer Fritz Hauser and Portuguese marimba master Pedro Carneiro, the title translating roughly to "step of two", implying a dance heard in elusively minimal yet highly active interactions between the two, each progressively numbered work borrowing from improvisational and contemporary approaches; fascinatingly sophisticated and often joyful work.

Heinemann, Jakob: Opacity
(Kashe Editions)
