UPDATE

"I think artists are supposed to "mess" with the music by the greats,
Especially those pushing forward musically,
Like Ellington and Cecil.
They would play with existing forms so often,
To both expand the tradition and explore."
—Angelica Sanchez

Faustino, Hernani: Twelve Bass Tunes
(Phonogram Unit)

As described, twelve solo improvisations from Portuguese double bassist Hernani Faustino, known for Red Trio, Jose Lencastre Nau Quartet, innumerable Creative Sources ensembles, &c., here displaying his muscular yet lyrical approach to the big strings through plucking, bowing and instrument emanations, paced to value expression over exhibitionism; beautiful.

Insanely virtuosic exchanges between two New York heavyweight improvisers--pianist Matt Mitchell and multi-wind player Anna Webber on tenor saxophone & flute--in three concise dialogs and two extended works, through twists and turns supporting each other in an equal exchange of expression that implies telepathic exchange of elegant lyricism or rapid-fire excitement.
