The US Federal Holiday known as "Labor Day" is intended to celebrate those who dedicate their life to work, and, theoretically, for workers to take a break and a mutual deep breath as a culture. This year saw the full return to performance for many musicians after a bumpy few years. The lay of the land still feels different for performance venues, and the biggest cities seem to have resonating effects from the restrictions and the inherent concerns of mingling in public. Masks are generally off, and most people are returning to public venues, albeit cautiously.

We continue to support performing and recordings artists, who are recovering after being generally sidelined over the last years. We hope that our annual Labor Day Sale helps to promote and sell recordings from the incredible musicians in our catalog and the unique and masterful music they create. Our sale this year will be from Friday, September 1 to Monday, September 4 and will discount all new releases across our catalog.

(Evil Clown)

Cecil Taylor trio associates, the working duo of poet Jane SpokenWord and bassist Albey onBass, joins the collaborative Boston duo of David Peck on reeds & percussion and Gylnis Lomon on cello and aquasonic, the "Axioms" focusing on statements or propositions that bridge the distance between poetic discussion of truths and abstract musical structures.

Dorner, Axel / Allemano, Lina: Aphelia
(Relative Pitch)

Bringing together two exceptional trumpeters approaching their instruments in innovative ways--Berlin trumpeter Axel Dorner and Toronto trumpeter Lina Alleman--in duos and virtual ensembles, each of the eight improvisations titled for lesser-known, smaller celestial bodies, the album title referring to the furthest distance an object achieves while orbiting the sun.

Expanse: Chromatic Spectrum
(Evil Clown)

The Boston-based Expanse, inspired by the concepts of space and restraint, configured as a trio in a livestreamed session where Evil Clown stalwart David Peck on clarinets, saxophones, fog horns & percussion is joined by Eric Woods on analog synth & percussion, and Michael Knoblach, who focuses on exotic percussion instruments, for a unique journey in electroacoustic improv.

Jessen, Kyle: Primitive
(Relative Pitch)

An album of cathartic release in five solo saxophone improvisations from Omaha, Nebraska reedist Kyle Jessen, aggressive and angst-filled expositions that reflect anger and isolation, but also powerful statements of technical skill and personal expression, from the brutal "Death Trap" to the more introspective explorations of "Poltergeist"; exactingly purgative.

     Buy      $13.95      Listen

Leap Of Faith Chinese Orchestra: Jade Mirror of the Four Unknowns
(Evil Clown)

A unique and fascinating edition of the Leap of Faith Orchestra, bringing special guests Jimmy Zhao, Yazhi Gao, Jiaxin Winky Wan, Ziya Gao, and Jiangcheng Guan performing on Chinese instruments to join with the core duo of David Peck on clarinets, saxophones, clarinets & flutes, Glynis Lomon on cello, aquasonic & voice, along with percussionist/drummer Michael Knoblach.

One of Evil Clown's most prolific groupings, Metal Chaos Ensemble was formed in 2015 by David Peck and Yuri Zbitnov as a working project to explore chaotic rhythms on metallic instruments, here in a live performance with real time signal processing by Joel Simches, performed with saxophonist Michael Caglianone, bassist Mike Gruen, analog synthesist Eric Woods and percussionist Steve Niemitz.

Sanders, Mark / Chris Mapp / Andrew Woodhead: CollapseUncollapse: Time in Images
(577 Records)

Starting as an electric jazz album, the UK trio of Mark Sanders on drums & percussion, Chris Mapp on bass & electronics and Andrew Woodhead on keys & electronics slip into moody and experimental ea-improv territory, fluctuating between acoustic and electronic material of masterful virtuosity, presenting two unconventional solo sections for drummer Sanders along the way.
