Bringing together a remarkable ensemble of Bay Area experimentalists rooted in the Mills College lineage, this debut by the Oakland Reductionist Orchestra merges live and studio explorations of reductionist improvisation, transforming acoustic sound into richly textured, electronically inflected sonic environments of deep focus and collective restraint.

The cross-continental trio of Cheryl E. Leonard, Tom Djll, and Bryan Day create an improvised electro-acoustic environment of equal voices, blending trumpet with attachments and electronics, invented instruments, homemade synths, driftwood, shells, bones, feathers, and field recordings in a dynamic performance recorded in Albany, NY and San Pablo, CA, mastered by Thomas Dimuzio.

Drone-based electroacoustic improvisations led by Jonathan Segel on Halldorophone, guitar, and Buchla synth, joined by an expanded Chaos Butterfly ensemble in longform, time-dilating works where evolving feedback, percussion, winds, and electronics blur structure and narrative into immersive, densely active yet often beautifully delicate sonic landscapes.

Using analog computers that "require a lot of real-time intervention to flesh out their neurotic narratives", the typically trumpeter Tom Djll (Grosse Abfahrt) turns his attention to a series of prickly sound works of strange intention and direction, through fourteen works titled like a series of math equations mashed into a dictionary; good weird fun.

A fascinating trio of West Coast sonic explorers exploring the isopleth, the zone of seawater that receives enough sunlight for photosynthesis to occur, from improvising trumpeter Tom Djll employing electronics with his horn, Bryan Day on invented instruments, and Cheryl Leonard using natural objects including driftwood, feathers, marsh reeds, penguin bones, &c.
