Recorded in Berlin during the summer of 2022, this first collaboration between clarinetist Kai Fagaschinski and Beijing-based sound artist Yan Jun, blends clarinet, voice, and field recordings with objects and inventive sound sources in four pieces that dissolve boundaries between improvisation, composition, and experimental sound design, creating a dizzying, multilayered auditory experience.

A tongue-in-cheek album packaged like a Deutsche Grammophon release of a string quartet by fictional composer Frieda Bertelsohn Martholdys (1878-1907), which is instead a superb live ea-improv performance at the 2018 Music Unlimited Festival in Austria by Gaudenz Badrutt (electronics), Kai Fagaschinski (clarinette), Jonas Kocher (accordion) & Christof Kurzmann (electronics).

Using harmonic intersections and extraneous sonic emanations from two clarinets, the duo of Kai Fagaschinski and Michael Thieke (also of The Magic I.D.) continue their long-standing International Nothing project of composed works through patient interactions of powerfully focused technique, here in their fifth album presenting a 42-minute work of delicate, dark beauty.

An extremely balanced group of electroacoustic improvisers, Kai Fagaschinski on clarinet and Liz Allbee on trumpet make up the acoustic side, though sounding as electronic and other-worldly as Billy Roisz on e-bass and electronics and Marta Zapparoli on reel-to-reel tapes and tape machines, creating incredibly wide-ranging and psychedelic sonic environments.

Meaning "sound and smoke", the quartet of trumpeter Axel Dorner, pianist Tisha Mukarji, and reedist Johan Arrias & Kai Fagaschinski are caught live at Ausland in Berlin for a set of tonal improvisations based on compositions, creating outstanding textural environments.
