Using early cylinder recordings from the UCSB Cylinder Archive, Chicago composer Hali Palombo creates twelve brief and diverse compositions by looping each scratchy and sometimes strange recording, audio phantasms from one of the earliest forms of audio recording, repurposed into fascinating vignettes of experimental and intuitive approaches to sound art. |

Crafting most of her music from a large personal library of CB and amateur radio recordings, Hali's compositions also include morse code, wax cylinder samples and field recordings she has taken at various Midwestern points of interest. Her influences include Philip Glass, Jorge Luis Borges, and FermiLab National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, IL (she would like her ashes scattered there someday, hopefully not anytime soon)." -Hali Palombo Website (https://www.halipalombo.com/about)2/24/2021 Have a better biography or biography source? ![]() "Scouring the archives of the UCSB Cylinder Archive, Hali Palombo has rescued old utterances for the hauntingly nostalgic Cylinder Loops. Ambient in tone yet experimental in construction, the release fits comfortably in each category (Astral Editions, January 29). An intriguing temporal line might be drawn to ACT!s 'Gray Matter AR' Snapchat Compositions [100], whose source material ~ interviews with senior citizens ~ is modern, but whose spirit is the same (January 22)."-A Closer Listen Get additional information at A Closer Listen ![]() Cassettes Physical Releases that include Download Codes Electro-Acoustic Electroacoustic Composition Organized Sound and Sample Based Music Turntablists Solo Artist Recordings Staff Picks & Recommended Items New in Experimental & Electronic Music Recent Releases and Best Sellers |
