"Kindred begins, quite unexpectedly, with a marvelously obscure cover of Eno's 'Taking Tiger Mountain' (the duo assisted on this track by Judith Hamann, cello and voice; Alexandra Spence, clarinet; Cristián Alvear, guitar; Al Jones, lap steel guitar, voice; Gregory Moskos, piano; and Tim Clément, tapes), burying the original beneath swaths of gentle sound and the hazily bent vocals where the tune's melody is limned. It's the start of an enjoyable journey, the music acquiring more of a crust as it goes as Clément and Ruhlmann take over. "Against What Light" is chillier, bits of windblown grit coating the sleekness, a voice explicating revolutionary theory (perhaps in homage to the mind of Cardew's tiger), gulls, low moans. Side Two opens with the length 'Between Regions of Partial Shadow and Complete Illumination', picking up where the last track left off, more meditative at first but soon becoming nervous, agitated, the crackles and hums providing more tension than solace. Voices appear again, but they're eerie, more disembodied, swirled into the hum which churns along, very enjoyably, until the inevitable dissipation. The concluding track, a footnote titled, '*', continues the general flow, seeming to want to circle back to the beginning before veering suddenly into thorny high pitches and ending abruptly. "Raised in Toronto and based in Vancouver, Joda Clément has been performing and composing experimental music for over 15 years. His work utilizes analog and acoustic instruments, field recordings and feedback to carefully construct listening environments that transcend a distinction between sound, site, and source.

Joda has performed or exhibited in Canada and abroad, including appearances at The Music Gallery, MOCCA, Issue Project Room (NY), Reheat (Austria), Suoni Per Il Popolo, Extermination Music Night, Life Changing Ministry (CA), Electric Eclectics Festival, VIVO Media Arts Centre, MUTEK, Oboro New Media lab and the West Hollywood Library (CA).

His music has been released internationally on labels such as Alluvial Recordings (US), Glistening Examples (US), Mystery Sea (BE), Unfathomless (BE), caduc (CA) and Notice Recordings (US).

Collaborators past and present include Magali Babin, Michael Northam, Hitoshi Kojo, Olivia Block, Bhob Rainey, Bonnie Jones, Kai Fagaschinski, Chris Cogburn, Tomasz Krakowiak, Mathieu Ruhlmann and Lance Austin Olsen, for example."

"Mathieu Ruhlmann is a visual and sound artist. He first began composing soundworks to accompany his visual art based on found material. He has created works for various labels in Europe, Canada and the United States as well as contributed to several compilations. He has also produced sound installations and held performances thorughout North America. He currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia."

Chilean musician dedicated to the performance, premiere and recording of new music. He serves as co-curator of the Experimental Music Festival Relincha, in Valdivia, Chile.

Since the beginning of his career he has been constantly performing in the main auditoriums and concert halls of his country, as well as international festivals and concert venues. In recent years he has concentrated its efforts in performing educational concerts in rural areas of the Los Lagos region, in Southern Chile.

"Alexandra Spence is a sound artist / musician from Sydney, Australia. She makes music performances, compositions, improvisations, and sound installations.

Alex is interested in the idea of listening as an active practice. She is inspired by everyday sound, and how our individual notions of place and identity are shaped and mediated through these sounds. She considers the intricate relationships between the listener, the object, and the surrounding environment to be a kind of communion or conversation. Her work favours small sounds, hidden sonic processes, subtlety, quietude and unusual sound sources.(she also holds the pseudo-scientific belief that electricity might actually be magic)

Alex has performed and presented work in concerts, festivals, symposiums and galleries in Australia, Canada, and Europe, including the Vancouver Art Gallery, CA; Destroy Vancouver, CA; Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium, CA; the Engineroom International Sound Art Competition, UK; the Women In Sound/Women On Sound forum: Educating Girls in Sound, Lancaster, UK; the FKL Symposium, Besenello, IT; the NOW Now Festival, Sydney, AU; Vivid Festival, Sydney, AU; Gaffa Gallery, Sydney, AU. "Tim Clément began composing music in the late 1970's with a conviction that the music with which we surround ourselves acts as a conditioning agent, having profound effects on our physical, emotional and spiritual lives. His innovative manipulation of minimalist techniques and field recordings attracted forward-thinking record companies and resulted in the release of ten international records, four of which were in collaboration with friend and colleague Mychael Danna. Internationally recognized as the duo, Danna & Clément, these collective works established their distinctive "Canadiana" sound, coined as "Romantic Minimalism".

These early experiences provided Clément with essential skills for composing, recording and sound production. This resulted in a five-year position as Composer-In-Residence at Toronto's McLaughlin Planetarium from 1990-1995.

Much of Tim's youth was spent in Northen Quebec, where he as a Métis citizen he first conceived of using music as an environment. At the age of 24, this conviction motivated him to spend five years living in the Northern Ontario wilderness to observe and record natural soundscapes. Fundamental to his development as a composer, this intimate connection with the land is woven throughout Clément's compositions.

During his residency at the planetarium, Clément had the opportunity to research and implement varied strategies to record and reproduce omni-directional sound scenes. These strategies were also applied to live productions and sound installations.

The pursuit to produce the most evocative sonic experiences has always been fundamental to his work. New advances in immersive audio technology are rapidly making this vision a reality. 3D, 4D, ambisonics and binaural sound are used to augment the perception of size, space and distance, thereby enhancing the perception of motion that glues a visual scene together.

While maintaining a passion for immersive sound, Clément often incorporates exotic instrumentation from the vast spectrum of global indigenous music, particularly where more than one cultural tradition intermingle.

Throughout his professional career Clément has worked on over 25 projects and commissions, including composition and sound design for music for film, television, theatre, dance, domed theatres, video and sound installation.

Tim has worked and recorded with many of Canada's most prominent and talented musicians, including: Kim Deschamps, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Oliver Schroer, Anne Bourne, Ron Korb, Al Cross, Patrick O'Gorman, John Johnson, Colin Cripps, Anne Lindsay, Tara McLean, Paul Inston, Mark Shannon, Ron Allen, Michael Uytebroek, Lee Whalen and Tom Wilson.

Tim Clément is now considered one of the most original and innovative voices in contemporary music.

"Judith Hamann is an Australian-born cellist currently based between Melbourne and San Diego. Her performance practice stretches across various genres, encompassing elements of improvised, art, experimental, and popular music. Judith has studied contemporary repertoire with many cellists, including Charles Curtis and Séverine Ballon. She is developing a strong practice in improvisation through collaborative projects and performances, both in Australia and internationally, including Hammers Lake (with Carolyn Connors) and Golinski/Hamann/Dunscombe trio. She has worked with artists and ensembles, including Oren Ambarchi, ELISION Ensemble, Ellen Fullman, Graham Lambkin, Jon Rose, Not Yet It's Difficult, Ilan Volkov, and La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela. Judith is a founding member of Golden Fur and one-half of the immersive duo project Cello II (with Anthea Caddy).

She has performed widely with festivals including Tectonics (Glasgow, Adelaide), UnSound (NYC), Adelaide Festival of Arts, Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Now Now (Sydney), Dark Mona (Hobart), Extremities: Japanese Australian Festival (Tokyo), Tokyo Experimental Festival, SiDance Festival (Seoul), Ausland Summer Festival (Berlin), and Liquid Architecture (Australia).
