![]() "Statement of Intent from Jon DeRosa (Aarktica): "The idea behind the remixes was basically an experiment to see if I could pull off putting together a compilation like Brian (Silber Records) & I did in the old days circa 1997. It's no secret that I've become detached from &, frankly, frustrated with the direction the music industry has gone over the course of Aarktica's ten-year existence. I feel a lot of the people I know, myself included, often forget why we're doing this in the first place. So in some ways, this was an attempt to rally the troops to do something together, without worrying about sales numbers or accessibility. While some of the artists involved are younger (Planar, Slicnaton, Summer Cats), several of the artists involved have been playing in the same circles as Aarktica for as long as the project has existed. Artists like Yellow6, Remora, Landing & Mason Jones...we're all pretty much old men. I was most pleased to get Richard/Declining Winter involved. As a lifelong Hood fan, I have followed his work since even before Aarktica, so to have him remix "Am I Demon?" (by another band I idolize) was a really special thing. The material on the original "In Sea," lent itself well to reworking, as it was a rather abstract release compared to the last few Aarktica albums on Darla. & because of that, the artists seemed to really em- brace the idea of reworking the tracks as opposed to just remixing them. The remixes have been injected so much with the individual artist's style, most seem more like collaborations than remixes."
