"Helena Espvall is a cello player who is comfortable in indie rock and improvised music circles. She was born and raised in Sweden, playing guitar and cello in rock bands and a silent movie orchestra. Moving to the U.S. and settling in Philadelphia in 2000, Espvall further explored Arabic music, performed with the Amnesiac Music & Dance Ensemble, and joined the contemporary psychedelic-folk group Espers, recording the CDs Weed Tree and II with them. Her penchant for playing free jazz has resulted in collaborations with guitarist Eugene Chadbourne. She is a featured artist with saxophonist/flutist Oluyemi Thomas on his recording Before the Beginning, and with From Quagmire on Habitats in the Wound. Espvall's debut CD as a leader, Nimis & Arx, from the Pax/Fire Museum label is produced by George Korien, where she plays cello, guitar, and recorder, sings and uses electronics. Other artists she has worked with include Katt Hernandez, Lukas Ligeti, Masaki Batoh, Gui Mallon, Nick Castro, Bert Jansch, Sharron Kraus, Fürsaxa, Vashti Bunyan, Samara Lubelski, Marissa Nadler, Damon & Naomi, Arborea, Curia, Golden Ball, the Valerie Project, Polineros, and Scorces.

"Leif Jordansson was an original member of Swedish band Badliver, who released the album "14 sanger" (meaning 14 songs) in 1989. The album, released on City records featured interpretations of songs by Tom Waits translated to Swedish. Badliver went on to make an album with their own songs "Dag och natt U.P.A" in 1993 (Non Stop records) and music for a number of plays and TV-productions, amongst others an opera for the Gothenburg Opera's "Makkbett".

Since the mid 90's Leif Jordansson has composed music for movies, plays and dance performances. In 1996 he released a CD called "Music for movements" (So Far records) containing music composed for 5 ballets choreographed by Patrick King. Jordansson has composed music for ballets for the biggest scenes in Sweden and has done several jobs in England, Italy and France. In 1999 he was involved in the making of "En salig samling" (duet with Irma Schultz "Ljuvligt och kaerleksfullt"). The album was made to benefit the Swedish Salvation Army and sold triple platinum. Furthermore, Jordansson composed the music for Johan Loefstedts award winning motion picture "Kometen" (2003) - a 30 minute silent picture. He has also collaborated with moviemakers such as Cameron Alyasin (on "Never an Absolution" awarded the Crystal Bear-award i Berlin 2006) and Bengt Loefgren (whose film Icy Riders, with musical score by Jordansson, premieres soon).

During the 21st century Leif Jordansson has contributed on a number of children's records, amongst others Grammy award winning "Lilla Kottens jul" (2004) and "Majas traedgardsvisor" released last spring. He has also composed music for the children's TV series "Pomos Piano" (fall 2008)

Leif Jordansson is the creative leader of The Great Learning Orchestra, a group of musicians exploring contemporary experimental music. TGLO has performed music by Gavin Bryars, Terry Riley, Cornelius Cardew och Lou Reed amongst others. Their own compositions contains a transcription of the music and sounds from The Chainsaw Massacre and Jordansson's own "A4 Rum" in which the orchestra plays music composed on a size A4 piece of paper.

"Lisa Ullén, pianist and composer. Born 1964 Seoul

Korea, grew up in the north of Sweden, now based in Stockholm. Graduated in 1990 from the Royal Academy of Music, Stockholm . Studies in jazz and improvisation at Chapel Hill NC USA. electro-acoustic music at EMS (Electro Acoustic Studio of Sweden).

Among her commissioned works are intermedia project Kyrillien, chamber manga opera Ninjutsu , musical drama play Now time is waiting. She has been supported and rewarded by the Swedish Arts Council, the Society of Swedish Composers, Swedish Arts Grant, and the Royal Music Academy.

The musicians of Lisa Ullén Quartet have their musical roots in jazz, punk, chamber music and blues but come together in what might modestly be called modern acoustic improvisational music. An impressively keen ear is paired with astounding musicianship, where each single note played is as important as the linear totality. A new generation of Swedish musicians expand the concept of free jazz, giving space to beat and melody as well. All the members of the group are well established on the

Swedish jazz and improvisation scene. LUQ have been broadcast by the Swedish National radio and TV and the second album was released in April -09 with very good reviews Lisa Ullén and Nina de Heney Duo has existed since 2007, and has rapidly gained recognition as one the most thrilling new groups on the improvisation scene in Sweden. They are individually known and respected as well established performers, having each developed a personal sound on their respective instruments.

Their second album, released in April -09, received very good reviews. They have performed at the main festivals in Sweden, such as the Umeå International Jazz Festival and the Stockholm Jazz Festival, and their music has several times been broad-casted on the National Swedish Jazz Radio P2."
