"There's something special about playing saxophone and drum duets for me. My father was a drummer and he taught me drum rudiments from a really early age so I've always been attracted to the drums.
When I was in my twenties I used to spend hours and hours with drummer Tony Levin at his house playing duets to the early hours of the morning, both of us loving to hang out and play all night.
When Jon Irabagon said he was over in the UK and wanted to get together I immediately heard two tenros with two drummers, and thought we must record that.
I asked Mark Sanders and Jim Bashford, two of the most musical drummers I know, if they would be interested and their response wasa extremely positive.
I suggested it to Jon and again his response was great. So here it is, saxophone and drum duets times two. What a great session it was. All improvised, no fuss, just playing. I loved it. Hope you the listener enjoy too.
Jon suggested we could dedicate this music to Cecil Taylor as he died a few days before this session."-Paul Dunmall
