"ImproX

Improvised music with Udo Schindler & guests

The X for the Unknown and the Unheard is the program in this new series with the multi-instrumentalist, composer and architect Udo Schindler. With changing guests, he embarks on a sound adventure into the world of improvised music. With Gunnar Geisse and Patrick Schimanski he designed the improX # 1.

Udo Schindler and Gunnar Geisse are a well-rehearsed experimental sound adventure and sound laboratory duo, fueled by many performances with external musicians and guests of the Salon für Klang + Kunst such as Matthias Müller, Maja Osojnik, Paul Hubweber and Frank Paul Schubert.

# 3

In the third edition, the Swiss artist Franziska Baumann makes a stopover in Schindler's sound laboratory. Her work between improvised music, spatial sound and audiovisual performances reflects the diversity in which today's creative musicians move: from purely acoustic music to sensor and digital technology, between the two poles of composition and improvisation, between spatial sound projects and concertante stage situations , A sound event in a class of its own!"-Theater hochX event listing

Artist Biographies

"Franziska Baumann, an internationally acclaimed vocalist, composer and sound artist is experienced in a diversity of improvised and composed music.

As a vocalist she explores the human voice as a multi-faceted instrument expanding traditional boundaries. She has developed an extensive vocabulary of experimental and extended vocal techniques such as multiphonics and glottal clicks and a variety of unique microtonal, timbre-modifying and percussive vocal techniques that have become her "signature sounds". Her research interests include the voice as a medium between instrument and potentials of human feelings and human society by causing unusual ways of listening and consciousness..

As a composer her repertoire is diverse and includes commissions for electroacoustic and improvised projects to experimental radioworks, large-scale site-specific sound environments and installations, all of which are characterized by a very personal language.

As "artist in residence" in the STEIM "Studio for ElectroInstrumental Music", Amsterdam, she developed an interactive SensorLab based Sensorglove. Mainly in solo performances she uses the Sensorglove. This interactive SensorLab-based cyberglove (her own development while staying at the STEIM Studio for ElectroInstrumental Music in Amsterdam) gives her total control over her articulations and the acoustics via gestures and movement.

Concert tours have taken her to the Netherlands, Germany, France, Great Britain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Belarus, Italy, Spain, South Corea, South Africa, Moçambique, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada.

Radio: diverse Portraits auf DRS2, Deutschlandradio, Südwestfunk.

She is a professor for non-idiomatic improvisation-composition and vocal performance at the Berne University of Music, Switzerland."

"Udo Schindler is a German improvisation musicians (bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, saxophone, flute, cornet, also accordion, guitar, percussion, analog synthesizer) and architect. Schindler was active in the 1970s in Franconia first as rock and rock jazz musician before he had flute lessons at the conservatory Nuremberg. Subsequently, he studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and worked as an architect. In the 1990s he turned to contemporary music (Arch.Ensemble) and improvised music (Schindler.Interferenz.3). In addition to the single tube instruments (saxophones and clarinets), he studied the cornet. In addition to his sound research, he also worked as a director, performer, musician and composer for various theater productions. In the following years he performed with solo and duo projects at new music festivals (Musica Viva, Klangaktionen, etc ...), jazz, experimental music, among others. This led to collaborations with musicians like Hubert Bergmann, Gerry Hemingway, Eddie Prevost, Sebi Tramontana, Georg Wissel, John Russell, Blaise Siwula, Frank Gratkowski, Hans Koch, Urs Leimgruber, Elisabeth Harnik, Katharina Weber and Frank Paul Schubert. In addition to his activities in solid cast he initiated in Munich a series of concerts to free improvisation in ad hoc to test instrumentation."
