"Abstraction Distraction was also composed to provide a challenge to myself: to construct an entire CD using only my soprano and tenor saxophones as the solo voice. I allowed myself only one or two takes on each piece to preserve the spontaneity found in a session of jazz or other improvised music. After the basic rhythmic beds were composed, I overdubbed the saxophone solos. My soprano and tenor saxophones were mic'd conventionally with a Neumann condensor but a clip-on Beyer dynamic microphone was also used with the signal routed through a Zoom Ultra-Fuzz distortion pedal and an Eventide Timefactor delay and recorded simultaneously on separate tracks. All processing was done in real-time."-Elliott Sharp
