Originally released on RecRec Record (Switzerland), this is the first of two meetings between The Ex and the late cellist Tom Cora. Cora, a downtown NY improviser and half of the intesely creative rock band Skeleton Crew (along with Fred Frith), is in excellent form on this release; the cello is a rare instrument in rock, and is usually relegated to melodic backup or sympathetic playing. Not so with Cora, who tore at the instrument with an agression that rivals any guitarist. Set alongside the socially active and rhytmically advanced "punk" group The Ex, they create a raging fire that has to be heard to be understood. Catherine Janiaux (Cora's wife) joins in for a song about rats and commies - what could be finer? Magnificent, intelligent, melodic, driven, determined and rocking with a tremendous amount to say... this is the real deal!
