After Dinner vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and sound artist Haco undertook her first North American tour in 2002, bringing with her an irregularly tuned electric mandolin, two samplers, a mini-drum synth and her "Howling [tea]Pot" feedback instrument, here in seven uniquely Haco performances of sonic instrumentals and song, performed at Mama Gaia's in Cambridge.

NY composer & keyboardist Derek Baron meets with Minneapolis experimental composer & performer Luke Martin at Zeitgeist Center in New Orleans and at Resource Space in Minneapolis, MN to record these live performances on piano, keyboard, no-input mixing board and cassette recordings; minimal works of tension and release, incorporating movement, audience and room sounds into their contemporary improvisations.

The former touring guitarist for Bikini Kill, who has also worked with The Raincoats and Kim Gordon, in a 2-part solo work of experimental approaches to the electric guitar, starting with minimal loops that slowly layer in intensity until reaching a climactic release and dispersal, picked up again in the second part for a unique work of noise and alien guitar soloing.

Aeolian instruments, which create sound by the action of wind, have been an occupation of Australian violinist Jon Rose since 1979, using central Australia's winds to exite vibrations on self-invented instrumented using piano wire and fishing line, here presenting beautifully exotic recordings from two instruments he created in 2021 (The Monolith) and in 2022 (The Tube).

Recording on an afternoon in Andrew Weather's studio Wind Tide, in Littlefield, Texas in 2023, from the electroacoustic trio of Kory Reeder on double bass, electronics & gongs, Ryan Seward on psaltery & electronics and Andrew Weathers on lap steel & tenor saxophone, the final compositions assembled from two improvisations using two different tunings that Seward brought with him.

Rutger Zuydervelt, aka Machinefabriek, composes the soundtrack for the film Banzo, written and directed by Margarida Cardoso, rich ambient music from melancholy to optimistic warmth, reflecting the tone and story of a plantation in 1907 plagued by starvation and suicide, and the doctor who decides to heal them by trying to understand what is affecting their soul.

A new sound composition by Dutch composer Rutger Zuydervelt for the installation piece "Curve" by Cocky Eek, developed in collaboration with Boukje Schweigman, Rutger's work an 8-channel soundscape of seamless loops that accompanies visitors of the installation via 24 speakers, here in a stereo adaptation mimicking the spatial quality of the installation space.

The duo of French sound artists J-Kristoff Camps and Carole Rieussec, whose long-running duo project Kristoff K.Roll creates sound labyrinths of electroacoustic and acousmatic sources, meets with pianist Sophie Agnel and saxophonist Daunik Lazro for two extended works of sonic twists and turns, acoustic improvisation infiltrated with mysterious and startling sound; fascinating.

Discovering the sounds of electromagnetic fields on trams in the city of Trondheim by wearing custom induction headphones, Christina Kubisch's work explores themes of the sounds of travel in this 3-part work for electromagnetic wave recording and six voices, commissioned by nyMusikk Trondheim and developed with Trondheim Voices, recorded live in Trondheim in 2022.

Three previously unreleased works by composer Phil Niblock--Index" (1969); "Tenor" (1972); "Boston III" (1972)--plus an earlier version, "Boston I", all rich works of microtones, overtones, and drones that point to the direction of his subsequent work; "Boston III" was recorded with Rhys Chatham (flute, voice), Martin Bough (tenor saxophone), and Gregory Reeve (viola, voice).

"Turning discarded sounds into a form of stumbling poetry", Christian Schiefner (aka Chemiefaserwerk) and Michal Fundowicz (aka Turmeric Acid) use cassette tapes, objects and field recordings (eg. a kitchen timer, a kalimba pattern, a Polish instructional tape, Croatian field recording) to create fascinating transformations of sonic environments in two engaging aural journeys.

Taking the trombone into unusual territory, Danish composer and trombonist Maria Bertel, a member of Fire! Orchestra and Jooklo Danish Group, uses amplification to emphasize unusual and sometimes aberrant aspects of the bone, each of ten solo pieces focusing on various aspects of sound, noise, alien utterance and drone that she coaxes out of the instrument.

The first collaborative work by Seoul-based electronic, sound and noise artist Choi Joonyong and NY-based experimental artist Devin DiSanto in five recordings from Third Hand in Seoul, South Korea, where the two literally are heard "Taking Apart a Piano", "Wrapping a Piano in Foil and Vibrating the Case", or recording according to the title: "Spray, White Noise and a Bowling Ball".

Following their recordings of improvisations for the abstract film "Triangulated Waves", the long-running collaboration of guitarist Marcia Bassette (Yew Recordings, Heavy Conversation, Heavy Blossom) and violinist Samara Lubelski (Fiery Furnaces, White Magic, Thurston Moore, God Is My Co-Pilot) join for two extended sonic adventures of intertwining, effected strings.

A wild "Afro-Surrealist Anti-Opera" from composer & bassist Nick Dunston, performed with an ensemble of string players (including JACK Quartet) and vocalists, in a gripping hybrid of acoustic and electronic music, using the studio for post-processing to create Dunston's self-described "warped narrative", an understatement for this incredibly passionate, surreal and absolutely impressive work.

Driven by compelling rhythms and subtle interactions that wind around them, the trio of guitarist Oren Ambarchi, bassist Johan Berthling and drummer Andreas Werliin expand their Ghosted concept in this second album, four diverse pieces fusing "funk-jazz heads, polyrhythmic skeletons, ambient pastorals, post-kraut drones and shimmering soundtrack reveries".

An album of dense electronics, drums and gongs from Vermont drummer and experimenter Jabe Ledoux, aka Jo Bled, and Pittsburgh noise artist RJ Myato, co-founder of NNN Coalition and curator of Enforced Existence label, in three works from assertive jumbles of sound, to buzzy drones with muted percussion and ending with an ocean of blurred and swooping harmonics.

Eight distinctive works for electronics and sound from the alter ego of Roger H. Smith, using noise, percussive elements and unusual synthetics, layered around static and arpeggiated rhythms and punctuated with strange asides, the works run from 3:14 to 18:37 and were developed over a year and half; an excellent introduction to the sonic diversity Chefkirk revels in.

The first full-length collaboration between Portuguese double bassist Gonçalo Almeida and Netherlands sound artist Rutger Zuydervelt, aka Machinefabriek, born from the soundtrack to Lex Reitsma's documentary about photographer Koos Breukel, including additional recordings to create this beautiful long-form drone merging rich electronics with Gonçalo's powerfully textured harmonics.

Thirteen realizations of sound artist Rubén Turba and violist Minami Saeki's concept for two musicians or more, where each performer chooses five sounds as a "gift" to one of the others, played up to three times during the realization before moving to the next sound; these recordings were made independently in Tokyo & Madrid and then combined without editing.

A multinational quartet based in Germany led by Egyptian artist Rasha Ragab who chose and recites the texts — poems from Persian mystic al-Hallaj (858-922 AD) — in this extended piece of sound-oriented instrumental compostions from Lucio Capece, who also performs on bass clarinet, in a quartet with Werner Dafeldecker on double bass and Christoph Niolaus on stone harp.

Part of a concert to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of Ftarri's physical store in Suidobashi, Tokyo, drawing on performers from the Improvised Music From Japan imprint, turntable and sonic legend Otomo Yoshihide performed this solo concert in two sets, first using a turntable and the Ftarri store's harmonium (pump organ), and then on the turntable alone.

Translating to "rain pattering", German-born international sound artist Florian Wittenburg uses a MetaSynth and the Kyma visual programming language for sound design to emulate the sounds of rain pattering from aperiodic to periodic in two parts, along with heating noises in two parts, and a clock ticking; compellingly structured accompaniment to your personal ambiance.

The third collaboration between sound and electronic artists Bruno Duplant and Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) is a darkly heavy and dramatic work of subtle motion that slowly unfolds and shifts through vast sonic environments, fueled by acousmatic sources that take the listener to the edge of darkness and then pulls them back in warm waves or rich ambiance.

Mailing unspooled 1/4" tape to each other along with a magnet to randomly erase part of each tape, Marc Baron & Mark Vernon captured these fragments and placed them into sequence based on the minute past the hour each was originally recorded, contrasting the degraded recordings with the original; an exacting but fascinating method of creating something unexpected and uniquely engaging.
