Recording in Athens, Greece and drawing on their mythology, cellist Emmanuel Cremer performs five solo works under the title Five songs of Athens, each piece presenting a unique take on solo cello performace from deeply resonant to confrontationally acoustic, in both intensely active playing or thoughtful ruminations, a tour de force of exceptional expression.

""... none of us saw the island with our eyes, nor the great rolling waves towards the shore, before our ships with rowers' benches had landed there. So we pulled in all the sails and went down to the shore of the sea, then, having fallen asleep, we waited for the divine Eos. ...O my friends, I hear a woman, goddess or mortal, sing with delight inside this palace weaving a great web... So let's hasten to call it... ...Our men, having tasted this sweet fruit like honey, no longer wanted come back and tell us what they found. They only dreamed of staying among this people and, gorged with lotuses, they forgot their return..."-texts taken from the Odyssey, according to the translations of Homer
