SQUIDCO & THE SQUID'S EAR UPDATE

August 13, 2009

Squidco

A sad note today as we learn of the passing of drummer Rashied Ali, one of the greats... he will be missed. Put on your copy of Interstellar Space, his ground-breaking duo with John Coltrane, no doubt they're playing together once again.

New releases this time lead with 2 CDs and 4 CDRs on Another Timbre; Burkhard Beins' first release on his own label; Hatology reissues Archie Shepp & Max Roach's "The Long March", and Horace Tapscott's "The Dark Tree"; Not Two adds Joe Morris Trio and Whit Dickey Trio CDs; Sun Ra's "Helsinki", Rufus Harley's "Bagpipes", and AMK's Jackie Gleason/Salvador Dali deconstruction on Transparency; Tim Olive on EM Records; Chris Corsano on Ultra Eczema; Pansonic with Haino Kaji, and Pansonic's Mika Vainio solo; two great RIO releases on Altrock: Bay Area's miRthkon, and Yugen's tribute to Stormy Six's Leddi; Sub Rosa's 4 CD Anthology of modern Chinese experimental music; Greg Davis' "Primes"; we found a few final copies of early releases on the now defunct CUT label (while they last); Espers II is reissued; CHANGES TO blind & Blue Sausage Infant on Intangible Arts; Faust "So Far" LP reissue on 4 Men with Beards.

After the listings are 10 new reviews on The Squid's Ear .
