Lussier/Derome/Cutler: Three Pieces Suite

THREE SUITE PIECE, as its name implies, features three very varied musical suites from a trio of equally unique musical personalities. Quebecois multi-instrumentalists Rene Lussier and Jean Derome join forces with drummer/percussionist Chris Cutler (together with special guest, bass player Tom Cora) to construct a series of sound images that sprawl from classical landscape to art-brut abstract slash.

'La Suite des Trois Pommes' is taken from a film score of an '87 production by Jacques Leduc where most of the compositions were inspired by the suites for unaccompanied cello by J.S. Bach. The resulting mix of baroque, rock, electronics and near Nymanesque parody evokes the spectre of music past and hurls it into the outstretched arms of the spirit of music now. A 'Switched On Bach' for the 90s.

'The Cold Storage Suite' is a more dense and tightly packed work which has been icily decorated with Derome's chilling electronics, through which he blows an occasional thawing blast of gutteral sax. 'The Don't Worry Suite' shifts the theme into a fusion flecked finale which wanders into a petrified forest of haunting improvisation and prickling percussion, Together with the bonus track (which really is something else!) THREE PIECE SUITE moves into hitherto unexplored musical territory, draws the curtains and stokes up the fire.
