Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

The Norwegian free-improvising trio of prepared pianist Dag-Filip Roaldsnes, alto saxophonist Kim-Erik Pedersen, and percussionist Tore Sandbakken in 14 darkly graceful and succinct works of tension and release. The pieces slowly unfold, using unusual techniques in effective ways, never hurrying, but never tedious or mundane, like a slow-motion thriller with something always around the corner. The trio's influences are evidenced by titles like "Trio for Morton Feldman", though that piece comes in at only 1:38 long! Modern improv with a dark and odd sense of humor, beautifully executed, this is a trio to keep an eye and an ear on.

Kim-Erik Pedersen has recorded with Chris Corsano on his "Door to Door" release. Tore Sandbakken has worked with Speakeasy, Aphrodisiac, Off Topic, Vojtech Prochazka Trio, Jens Carelius and Astrid E. Pedersen Ensemble. Dag-Filip Roaldsnes has also recorded under his own name in an expanded version of this trio with clarinetist Morten Barrikmo.
