"Apostolos Sideris was born in 1978 in Athens, Greece, where he had his first musical training, playing the classical flute. By the time he was 15 he had switched to the electric bass. It didn't take long for him to fall in love with the instrument, and he was soon playing with various rock bands around Athens. By the time he was 17, his focus was directed towards Jazz music, something that led him to make the move and go to Boston, in order to attend Berklee. Following his stint in Boston, Apostolos moved to New York and earned his Master's degree in jazz Performance at the City College of NY, while being instructed by bass virtuoso, John Patitucci. Since then he has been freelancing around the States as well as abroad. He has performed with a wide array of musicians. In addition to being a performer, he is a devoted composer, writing in many different styles, ranging from Jazz to Middle Eastern and Latin influenced music. He currently resides in Istanbul Turkey and he has been directing his creative energy mainly toward working with an Ethnic-Jazz group he co-founded, called MESEL, as well as preparing his own album called 'Σummation', which will consist of his own compositions and improvisations, based on Greek and Middle Eastern themes through his own Jazz- influenced percpective."

"Born in Warwick, Rhode Island on September 22nd, 1964, Ken Vandermark began studying the tenor saxophone at the age of 16. Since graduating with a degree in Film and Communications from McGill University during the spring of 1986, his primary creative emphasis has been the exploration of contemporary music that deals directly with advanced methods of improvisation. In 1989, he moved to Chicago from Boston, and has worked continuously from the early 1990's onward, both as a performer and organizer in North America and Europe, recording in a large array of contexts, with many internationally renowned musicians (such as Fred Anderson, Ab Baars, Peter Brötzmann, Tim Daisy, Hamid Drake, Terrie Ex, Mats Gustafsson, Devin Hoff, Christof Kurzmann, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Joe McPhee, Paal Nilssen-Love, Paul Lytton, Andy Moor, Joe Morris, and Nate Wooley). His current activity includes work with Made To Break, The Resonance Ensemble, Side A, Lean Left, Fire Room, the DKV Trio, and duos with Paal Nilssen-Love and Tim Daisy; in addition, he is the music director of the experimental Pop band, The Margots. More than half of each year is spent touring in Europe, North America, and Japan, and his concerts and numerous recordings have been critically acclaimed both at home and abroad. In addition to the tenor sax, he also plays the bass and Bb clarinet, and baritone saxophone. In 1999 he was awarded the MacArthur prize for music."

descriptions, reviews, &c.

"Turkish free jazzers Konstrukt continue their series of exciting collaborations with Ken Vandermark, one of the key figures of Chicago's vivid jazz scene. After two critically acclaimed albums with the Japanese avant-garde/noise icon, Keiji Haino, Konstrukt return with a new inspiring collaborative mind: Ken Vandermark, who for three decades now has been a highly prolific musician in contemporary jazz and free improvisation. With various groups like NRG Ensemble, Spaceways Inc., The Vandermark 5, Made To Break, or the Peter Brotzmann Chicago Tentet (to name just a few) and various spontaneous collaborations the saxophone/clarinet player has created an impressive catalog and performedecorded with the who-is-who of today's jazz/improv scene: Paal Nilssen-Love, Hamid Drake, Fred Anderson, Paul Lytton, Joe Morris, The Ex, Axel Dorner, Mats Gustafsson, Joe McPhee, Zu, Peter Brotzmann, Paul Lovens, Lasse Marhaug, Yakuza, Kevin Drumm, and many more. Vandermark's enduring exploration and development of new paths in (free) jazz and improvisation not only made him a key figure of the vivid Chicago scene (since the days of AACM, a hotspot for musical creativity), but also gained the him the reputed Mac Arthur Fellowship in 1999.

In November 2018, Konstrukt (who themselves can look back on a long list of class A collaborators like Joe McPhee, William Parker, Akira Sakata, Marshall Allen, Evan Parker, Thurston Moore, or Alexander Hawkins) met Vandermark in their homebase Istanbul for a recording session -- a match made in heaven that all musicians involved are extremely happy with. The resulting album, Kozmik Bazaar, starts with a reference to Ornette Coleman before turning more and more into a psychedelic trip that goes way beyond the "jazz idiom". But what else to expect from such a stellar constellation?"-KarlRecords
