Creta: Creta [VINYL] (KARLRECORDS)

Massimo Pupillo (ZU, Laniakea), electronic artist Luciano Lamanna and string instrument virtuoso Roberto Zanisi combine to form Creta, creating sonic works that blend sci-fi ambient atmospheres with dark bass pulses and languid Mediterranean string instruments, an unusual yet surprisingly complementary set of approaches yielding a darkly lyrical album.

Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Creta is the new project by Massimo Pupillo (ZU, Laniakea), electronic artist Luciano Lamanna and string instrument virtuoso Roberto Zanisi. As trio they explore an adventurous sonic territory between COIL in their ambient moments, dark bass pulses and bucolic-mediterranean string sounds.

Creta is a new trio of artists coming from very different backgrounds: Roberto Zanisi is a finger picking guitar player and a virtuoso on strings of all kinds, including "exotic" instruments like the Turkish Cümbüs, the Greek Bouzouki or the Albanian Cifteli. Since 2003 he has been active in many contexts: he worked with Giovanni Venosta producing sound tracks for Silvio Soldini's movies, took part as soloist musician in Steward Copeland's tour "La Notte della Taranta (Night of Tarantula)", played with the American musician AMY DENIO and performed with Sainkho Namtchylak.

Luciano Lamanna's main characteristics are experimentation, analog synths, vinyl and a big love for techno. In 2015, the resident DJ at Ex Dogana, Roma and member of the Italian artist collective LSWHR launched the modular synthesizer project Balance (with Davide Ricci), and in 2017 he released the album "Divus" with ZU member Luca T. Mai, to name a few of Lamanna's many releases on labels like Earache, Boring Machines, Scuderia et.al.

And, last but not least, there is Massimo Pupillo, highly acclaimed bass maniac with Zu, Laniakea and in countless other constellations (a.o. Peter And Caspar Brötzmann, FM Einheit, Chris Corsano).

As Creta, they create outlandish sonic pieces that blend sci-fi ambient atmospheres with dark bass pulses and bucolic-mediterranean string instruments - an unique and yet coherent mix of elements that adds consequently to the oeuvres of the three artists!"-Karl Records

"Authentic maverick, or better said, a free beater.

His core values can be summarised in a handfull of key words: experimentation, analog synths, vinyl and love for techno.

From South to North, from raves to clubs, with a constant desire to have fun and grasp the right occasions, his career has become distinct due to its unconformity with the established norms.

As sound engineer, dj, producer and remixer, he never turned down an opportunity of adding his personal touch in his and other's tracks; initiating fruitful collaborations by injecting some of his essence in various projects such as Tekno Mobil Squad, Assalti Industriali, Der Noir and Lunar Lodge. He's an active participant of the Italian collective of artists known as LSWHR.

In 2015 the B A L A N C E project comes to light - a conceptual exhibition based on improvisation through the use of modular synthesizers, formed together with Davide Ricci.

In 2017 together with Luca T. Mai (Zu) release the album DIVUS, published by Boring Machines.

In the same year together with famous tattoo artist Luca Mamone give birth to ADSR SPQR, a tribute to the 90's rave scene focused on analog hard techno.

He has made dozens of releases on such labels as Scuderia, Kobayashi, Dancefloor Killers, Earache, Industrial Strength, Hard Electronic, Mokum, Lux Rec, MRT, No Pizza Rave, Concrete, Agonia, Boring Machines, Karl Records and Subsound Records above all.

His strength thus lies in the puzzle of sounds which is the fruit of the most desperate of experiences from techno, punk, industrial, wave and electronic - all of which are knowledgeably tessellated through the art of improvisation."
