Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"In June 2016, Martin Tetreault and erick d'Orion published an album on the label Kohlenstoff Records entitled 1948. This project was a tribute to "old electronic music", the result of improvisations exploiting concrete music. Using on the one hand as a source of recordings dating from the early stages of GRM and electronic and concrete music in general (Stockhausen, Henry, Oram, Schaeffer, etc.), on the other hand by creating disc imprints and manipulating The material / sound, the duo created a series of improvisations in a sort of "mise en abime historique".

The album Avant is the continuation of this project. The album was recorded live at the Mois Multi festival on February 11, 2017 in Quebec City. The two artists have participated in several recordings and concerts in common for nearly 20 years: the Estrapade album with Otomo Yoshihide and a_dontigny, published in 2004, is a good example, as is the series of live recordings available on The site www.notype.com. Since 2016 however, the two creators form a duo that has presented a few concerts and two publications. Before is the latest proposal from Tetreault and Orion. Avant is a series of noisy pieces where the sound textures build a frame of subtlety, almost narrative at times. It is a music of gestures, movement."-Tour de Bras

Artist Biographies

"Audio artist, installation and new media, self - taught composer / musician and audio curator residing in Quebec since 1993.

As a curator, he has organized more than a dozen events focusing on audio art and advanced sound creation. He was commissioner for programming at Avatar Center from October 2008 to June 2010. He is also curator for the sound installations section of the Victoriaville Contemporary Music Festival (FIMAV). He is the founder and artistic director of the organization in production and distribution in audio art and new music Tartar.

Concentrating much of his audio research on numerical maximalism, Érick d'Orion performs a work that closely resembles noize, concrete music, free jazz and electroacoustics. He is part of the duo Moulins_de_machines, the trio Bold (with Alexis Bellavance and Nicolas Bernier ) and the trio Napalm Jazz as well as a multitude of ad hoc trainings. He has performed in concert with renowned artists such as Evan Parker, Martin Tétreault, Otomo Yoshihide, Robin Fox, Ilpo Väisänen, Diane Labrosse, Alexandre St-Onge, Bernard Falaise, Sam Shalabi and Günter Müller., Europe, Australia, Cuba, Mexico and the United States of America. He has benefited from several creative residencies everywhere.

In parallel or jointly, he develops installations projects where audio and new technologies are assembled to create works in continuous movements becoming sources as well as audio broadcasters. His reflections focus on the reinterpretation, appropriation and re-reading of certain concepts of art history, in particular concrete music, dadaism and futurism, all without being backward. The redefinition of acoustic space and the relationship between the viewer's imagination and images, objects, environments and familiar or falsely mythical icons form an integral part of his installation work.

He is or has been a member of several boards of directors in the field of art : The White House, the collective media arts, Perte de Signal, Rhizomes productions, RCAAQ, CHYZ radio..."
