"The album also contains two compositions inspired by electronic music, particularly by works of the ensemble Suaves Figures (Piotr Kurek and Sylvia Monnier). In these pieces, Hubert Zemler transcribed the electronically generated sounds to acoustic instruments, supported by an excellent percussionist Milosz Pekala (Kwadrofonik, Mitch and Mitch, Hob Beats Percussion Group) playing the vibraphone. The material was registered during night recording sessions in the basement of the Camaldolese church in the Bielany district of Warsaw the place of amazing acoustics with Sebastian Witkowski as a sound engineer."-Bolt
"The Oscars have been handed out and it was plain to see that Birdman was well favored - if you enjoyed the movie in particular for Antonio Sanchez' improvised drum soundtrack, I have something else that will appeal to your taste.
The Warsaw-based percussion maverick Hubert Zemler plays drums in a way that similarly captures the imagination. Over the last few years he's collaborated with an array of avant-garde musicians like Arturas Bumsteinas, Kapacitron, Natalia Przybysz and various members of essential Polish music hub Lado ABC. Zemler's second album Gostak & Doshes, published by veteran record label Bôłt, reveals soothing rhythms across a set of profoundly intimate compositions. I've seen the Varsovian play drums live many times and I always admire how he dives into his own reality. He can play out solo improvised sets lasting even half an hour which asks for huge physical agility and meticulous concentration.
As you will notice, Zemler's cinematic music plays with silence making every mistake easy to trace. Fortunately the artist's attention to detail seems to disbar even the possibility of error. Though I find Zemler's solo shows most impressive, on Gostak & Doshes his sound is further enriched by Miłosz Pękala on the vibraphone. The album was recorded in February 2013, interestingly, in the vaults of the Camaldolese Church in Warsaw."- Mateusz Mondalski, Secret Decoder
