Artist Biographies:

"Itaru Oki (沖至) was born in Suma-Ku, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan on 10th September 1941. Oki Itaru was raised in a rich musical environment; his father was a player of the Shakuhachi (Japanese vertical flute) and his mother was a master of the Koto (Japanese horizontal harp) of the Ikuta School. He started to play the trumpet in his high school brass band before playing in a Dixieland style band and then in a bop band. In the late 1960's, the trumpeter began playing free jazz. He changed his place of performance from Kansai (a western area of Japan) to Tokyo in 1965. After improving his skill in many groups, he joined an experimental unit "ESSG" of Togashi Masahiko and Sato Masahiko. Oki made his first tour to Europe with the ESSG in 1969. After being back from Europe, he formed the Oki Itaru Trio, which later grew into a quartet. In June 1974, he moved to Paris, France. After living in Lyon for a while, he moved back to Paris in December 1999. Until the present, Oki has continually performed at concerts and festivals in France and various other countries in Europe." "Cyprien Busolini: violist Born in 1978. After classical studies of viola, Cyprien Busolini focuses mainly on contemporary repertoire and improvisation. He obtained a first viola prize at the CNR Rueil-Malmaison in the class of Françoise Gneri, then he perfected with P.Faure and P.H.Xuereb. His great interest in contemporary music and especially new works allows him to work with many composers like L.Naon, HULehmann, T.Johnson, JLGuionnet ... He has also played or created some of their solo pieces or sets. Improvisation allows him to work on other sound fields and to explore his instrument in a more personal way, notably on non-melodic and non-harmonic parameters but more focused on the matter of sound. Regularly, he works with dancers, actors, either in improvisation or for shows whose musical part he elaborates. On the other hand, he occasionally runs improvisation workshops for children. He currently plays in different ensembles, Dedalus, Onceim, and various groups of improvisation as well as in the whole Fratres, old music ensemble on old instruments. He has made several solo or Dedalus ensemble recordings, the Diagonal ensemble, but also with Garth Knox and various improvisational discs."

"Contrabassist from the " EDIM , Yoram Rosilio has been scouring the Parisian scenes since 2000 and participated in more than 250 concerts in the Parisian cinemas. At the same time, he recorded several albums in very different styles (Tiramisu, Ocho Soles, Damien Ossart trio, Zephyr Septet ...). He studied the oud and oriental music in parallel with Michel Arkache and Riadh Ghdir. Since 2006, alongside Soraya Djebbar, choreographer in contemporary dance he experimented the alliance of dance and music in improvisation. These two main sources of inspiration, both instrumental and conceptual, are Charles Mingus and William Parker. He met the latter on his last trip to New York. Although Jazz, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Song, Traditional, Free ..., Jazz is the greatest artistic satisfaction and the most rewarding experiences. In September 2006, he founded the Bar-Kochba Quintet which combines free jazz and oriental music."

descriptions, reviews, &c.

"From the new half live, half studio 2xCD, "They Begin To Speak". Both discs present near hour-long versions of the title track respectively. True to the spirit of the project, the live disc was actually performed first in 2015, recorded at The Lescar in Sheffield, UK. Sharrock, along with a mix of musicians, both new and from the prior performance, recreated the experience two months later in a studio in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. She was aided by dozens of improv luminaries during both events, such as Charlie Collins (I've heard of him!), John Jasnoch, Dereck Saw, and Itaru Oki. Still, Sharrock has an impressive way of charging through their determined cacophony and taking center stage by means of upping the ante. If the album is as wild and inspired in its entirety as the above excerpt, then two hours won't seem much of a chore."-Improvising Beings
