![]() "Where Triptet's debut Imaginary Perspective revolved around listening to long clouds of slow morphing sound, Figure in the Carpet is a darker journey. As the explorations of Sun Ra (the inspiration for Triptet's formation) were joyous and non-conformist, Triptet's updated explorations are about the loneliness of space travel and the isolation of technology. When the cinematic title track opens up the listener feels like someone has pushed them out of a spaceship into a desolate world where uncertainty and danger lurks behind every moon rock. This vibe comes from recording Michael Monhart's acoustic sax and simultaneously feeding the signal into a laptop synthesizer that produces strange processed sounds. When combined with electronic manipulations of Tom Baker's ambient guitar and theremin work and Greg Campbell's junk percussion and mangled french horn, we are given sounds that are both familiar and alien; right next to you but very far away. Triptet lives up to their name by sending us starkly beautiful improvised soundscapes from a million miles away and right here in your picture frame."-Engine ![]() Improvised Music Electro-Acoustic Electro-Acoustic Improv NY Downtown & Jazz/Improv Trio Recordings |
