Recorded during his residency at New York City's Birdland in Feb 2007, saxophonist and co-founder of the New York Art Quartet John Tchicai performs with the quintet of Charlie Kohlhase (sax), Garrison Fewell (guitar), Cecil McBee (bass) and Billy Hart. The trio of Tchicai, Kohlhase and Fewell had been performing since 2003, as heard on their Boxholder CD "Good Night Songs". Fewell had recorded with Cecil McBee on his "A Blue Deeper than Blue"; the McBee/Hart connection was well established and led to his addition to the quintet. Three of the four compositions are penned by Fewell, with Tchicai providing "Llanto del Indio". The results are an album of lasting beauty and significance, a testament to Tchicai and his remarkable influence in the NYC jazz scene.
