Ingar Zach:

Norwegian improviser, percussionist, Ingar Zach (b. June 29th 1971 in Oslo, Norway) begins his percussion training already at age 7 in the local schoolband in Oslo. During his teens he is active in the local jazz big band and also starts a progressive rock band at the age of 15.

From 1993-97 he finds a great interest in Norwegian folk music, and he plays drums/percussion in the successful groups; Chateau Neuf Spelemannslag and Harnihomba, which he tours with in both Europe and North America.

From 1993-94 he studies Musicology at the University in Oslo, Norway, and then moves to Trondheim in 1994 to start a three year study in jazz and composition at the Music Conservatory. Early 1997 he participates in an exchange program at the Royal

Music Academy in Stockholm, Sweden. During his brief residency in Stockholm in 1997 he meets the drummer Raymond Strid and guitar player David Stackenäs. The meeting with these two musicians leeds to a great interest for improvisation. After finishing his three year studies in Trondheim he moves back to Oslo and works as a freelance musician in the field of jazz and improvisation.

In 1998 he meets the guitar player; Ivar Grydeland with whom he develops a close musical relationship. In 2000 he co-founds the record label; SOFA together with Grydeland, releasing improvised music, exclusively (producing 22 productions by may 2007). In 2003 he obtaines the degree Cand. Musicae, for recieving the master in Chamber Music together with fellow student; Ivar Grydeland at the Music Academy in Oslo, Norway. This is the first master ever given in Norway with only improvised music on the repertoire.

Ingar Zach is known for the wide range of sounds in his instrument. He plays his percussion in a very dynamic, but still energetic way. He uses homemade percussion, gongs and devises like; propellers, bows, sruti-box and tabla machine as parts of his extended drumkit. He is dedicated to improvised/contemporary music and is regularly touring and recording with his fixed ensembles, but also in different ad-hoc projects in Europe, Canada and USA.

He is invited to festivals in Norway (Ultima Contemporary music festival, Kongsberg Jazz festival, Molde Jazz Festival), Europe (Berlin Jazz festival, Densites-France, Parthenay Improvised Music Festival-France, UnijazzPraha, Hurta Cordel-Madrid, Ulrichsberg Kaleidophon in Austria, Etna Festival in Catania, Italy), USA and Canada (Seattle Improvised Music festival, Empty Bottle festival in Chicago, Time Flies in Vancouver, FIMAV in Victoriaville),Lebanon (Irtijal-festival-Beirut) to name a few.

Martin Kuchen

Born 1966, Sweden. Plays alto-, tenor-, soprano-, and baritone saxophone. Tours internationally within the fields of jazz and improrelated music. Makes music for theatre, film, music to poetry and sound installations. Composes for Trespass Trio, Angles and Exploding Customer.

Nikos Veliotis

Born in Athens, Greece. Active since the late 80s, initially through the greek electronic band In Trance 95 later shifting towards the experimental field in both audio and video. Since the late 90s he has pushed the boundaries of sound and image using unorthodox cello techniques, floating long sustained sounds or silences and multilateral abstract visuals, overlays of digital trash and other digital found material. He has extensively performed in international festivals.

Artist Biographies:

"Not many Greek improvisers have made names for themselves on the European free music scene; Nikos Veliotis did it by connecting with British musicians in the late '90s while researching issues relating to the performance of graphic scores at Trinity College of Music in London. As a cellist, Veliotis is manifestly interested in extending the sound-making possibilities of his instrument. He's a member of the trio Cranc with harpist Rhodri Davies and violinist Angharad Davies. He's also played with the London Improviser's Orchestra and in duos with guitarist John Bisset and cellist John Wastell. Veliotis is a dedicated performer of contemporary classical works by composers such as Xenakis, Sculthorpe, Cardew, and Bussotti. He's also a member of Texturizer, a duo with Greek electronica artist Coti K. Veliotis has played on an ad hoc basis with Evan Parker, Fred Van Hove, and John Butcher, among others. His solo album, Cello (2001), was issued in limited edition with 100 CDs on the Confront label. Veliotis was the curator for the Athens offshoot of 2:13, a pan-European improvisation club that also has branches in London and Berlin."
