Two tracks from two groupings, anchored by Ernesto Rodrigues on viola and Jonathan Sielaff on bass clarinet, paired first with Vic Rawlings on cello & electronics and Leif Sundstrom on electronics; then with Gust Burns on piano and Manuel Mota on electric guitar. Both extended improvisations were recorded live at Noriaki Watanabe at Gallery 1412 in 2006, bringing well-versed West Coast and Lisbon free improvisers together for two related but uniquely toned works. Both pieces unfold slowly, the first focused more on sound and tone, while the second is more punctuated using more recognizable instrumentation. Thoughtful, patient and rewarding sounds from skilled innovators in improvisation.
