Three on a Thin Line

Rubin, Harold & Barre Phillips & Tatsuya Nakatani: Three on a Thin Line (Hopscotch Records)
Label: Hopscotch Records
Released in: USA

"Three on a thin line introduces to us the unique and beautiful voice of Clarinetist Harold Rubin. At 80 years old at the time of the recording Harold, who lives in Israel and was born in South Africa, is a revelation. Regretfully very rarely recorded Harold is one of the most unique clarinetist in free jazz walking along such giants as John Carter and Perry Robinson. In young life he got to play with all the famous musician of the 50 Jazz Scene of South Africa. IN the end of the 50's Harold went to trial for painting a black Jesus protesting the Apartheid and after being acquitted he left the country first to England and then to Israel. This put his music on hold for many years with very few peers to play with. Luckily here we get to hear him with master Bassist Barre Phillips who sounds like a kindred soul to Harold and Tatsuya joins this two masters with his own unique, surprising and creative percussive sonic drive."-Hopscotch
