Fester is the duo of Brooklyn bassist Sean Ali and Manhattan drummer David Grollman, using extended and unusual techniques to create mesmerizing and riveting improvisations, here in 19 short works.

"Bassist, composer, and improviser Sean Ali from Dayton, Ohio has been living in New York City since 2003. Here he participates in the city's vibrant experimental music scene both as a performer and an occasional curator of events. His current projects include: Fester with David Grollman (snare drum), Natura Morta with Frantz Loriot (viola) and Carlo Costa (drums), Hag with Brad Henkel (trumpet) and David Grollman (snare drum), PascAli with Pascal Niggenkemper (bass), Oracles with Yukari (flutes), and LathanFlinAli with Lathan Hardy (alto sax) and Flin van Hemmen (drums). He also does solo performances that involve text and sound-specific preparations for the bass. He is the founder and leader of a large ensemble for low-tone instruments called The Mudbath Orchestra. He is co-founder and member of the new music label Prom Night Records. Sean Ali performs regularly in New York City and has toured extensively throughout the East Coast and Midwest."-Sean Ali website

David Grollman scrapes, bows, slaps, hits and rubs very small drums and cymbals. He is best known for drumming in the underground bands Uncle Gut and The Penny Regime. Once found in a German restaurant playing drums in lederhosen with Ben Folds. He can most often be found in the East Village of NYC.

"David Grollman is a percussionist from NYC who performs freely improvised music. He performs in art galleries, tiki bars, and venues of curious ambience made more curious by his mongrel sounds. David bows, scrapes, blows, slaps, rubs, caresses, abuses, and generally tests the limits of his instrument. Anything is game. Anything may be a participant if the musical conversation calls for it. Artist, instrument, audience, and environment become ambiguous terms, conspiring in a theatrical exploration of chance dynamics and serendipitous exchanges."
