Label: Flying Note
Released in: USA

"An amazing presentation of Kali's unique World Jazz expressed through myriad timbres, textures and instruments. Here she plays soprano saxophone, cello, piano, synthesizer, voice, sheng, nai, kaval, moursin, drum set and timpani. Marvel at the beautiful sounds and concepts of Kali's invention in ensembles featuring seven excellent collaborators: William Parker, Newman Taylor Baker, Badal Roy, Ronnie Burrage, Ron McBee, Somell Richards, and Oscar Brown III. She adds four compositions in which she multi-tracks different combinations of mizmars, cellos, nai, sanza, soprano sax, piano, cello, drum set, shakuhachi, gong, and voices. One of the special qualities of this CD is the way these compositions segue so beautifully from one to the next creating a sublime suite of multi-dimensional music.

This CD charted #1 for 7 straight weeks on college radio upon its debut release in 1993."-Flying Note

William Parker wrote in the liner notes: "The music on this CD encompasses sounds from all over the world, yet there are no boundaries that separate the sound. For me this is the key that unlocks the beauty of the universe."

Kelvin Leander Williams wrote: "The key concepts defining this disc are continuity and contrast....Her improvs on soprano sax and flutes are delivered with a sense of purpose similar to Coltrane, and her themes (check out Lunar Wisdom and Monsoon) have a powerful spiritual urgency. And as is fitting for a musician using primordial sounds and microtonality in the service of the contemporary, Kali is no purist. While this music cultivates pristine acoustic timbres on cuts like Inner Ear and Curved Space, Kali multitracks all the instruments, displaying a superb ability to capture the moment with up-to-date technology. Given these strengths, the existence of so many wondrous new (to American ears) instrumental textures enhances the CD's format. It is both Kali's skill as a composer/producer and the remarkable telepathy between the musicians that make the connections on PROPHECY silvery smooth."

"William Parker is a bassist, improviser, composer, writer, and educator from New York City, heralded by The Village Voice as, "the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time."

In addition to recording over 150 albums, he has published six books and taught and mentored hundreds of young musicians and artists.

Parker's current bands include the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra, In Order to Survive, Raining on the Moon, Stan's Hat Flapping in the Wind, and the Cosmic Mountain Quartet with Hamid Drake, Kidd Jordan, and Cooper-Moore. Throughout his career he has performed with Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Milford Graves, and David S. Ware, among others."
