Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Gigante Sound recording artist Borful Tang, the outer inter-dimensional exile, returns with some of his strongest material to date. Released as an ambitious two disk set, 'On the Back of a Dying Beast: Volume One' chronicles the unedited live performance of Borful Tang on KDVS (Davis, CA) on August 30, 2006. For an uninterrupted hour and a half, Borful Tang reworks and extends a whole cadre of new material as well as a few tunes from his earlier releases. As stated in the title, this is only the first volume of several to come, chronicling the live radio performances of Mr. Borful Tang.

Hill herder by trade, collector of traditional music, exploiter of sound; Tang digs ever deeper into his collection of personal field recordings, instrument recordings and dusty vinyl found-sound to conjure up some of the most unique sounds on the planet. Korean vocal folk music is cut up over his live Moog manipulations; a recording of his shower is slowed and mangled with chopped up calliope, the trapped fanfare of a fading brass band and the rawkus assault of a monster truck rally; the drums of Art Blakey accompany the multi-reed acrobatics of an early 20th century Spaniard and the inner-workings of a fax machine...and on and on. His quest is for new sound, building new frontiers to inhabit as quickly as they disappear.

Borful Tang hails from Oakland, California where he composes and records."-Gigante Sound
